Dec 13th Sports Car Digest (.com) had an article on the '56 Sebring 12 hr. some terrific photos, many I've never seen before including a few of Fangio. interesting reading as well...
wonderful, Rick, thanks! the '56 Sebring was the first international race I ever attended, just before going into the Navy. Somewhere I still have some Kodachrome slides that i took at the race, including in the Ferrari 'garage' on a tiny back street in downtown Sebring the very early morning before the race. I recall very clearly the exhaust note of Fangio's big Ferrari 3.5 liter Monza 4-cylinder.
Seth - next time you find yourself goign thru those pictures, could I trouble you to look for any pics you might have of the dark blue Ferrari 500 Mondial, # 33, that came in first in class for the two liter cars? It was driven by Porfirio Rubirosa (also the owner) and Jim Pauley. We have owned that car since 1960.
yes, SCD almost always has some interesting photography with their articles. I would have posted a link but the Fchat system doesn't seem to want me to! I thought the photos of Briggs Cunningham and his "new" Lotus were a riot. I met Briggs a few times when he still had the museum in Calif. He seemed to me to have a very calm but strong personality. I imagined he wasn't quite as reserved with Colin.... It was a bit jarring to see him and others like Phil Hill so young and fit!!
Thanks to Jeffrey for posting this YouTube clip in the Dutch section: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wg41s7IbtE&feature=player_embedded[/ame] Gr. Martin
