    yes I did, parts alone for the accident repair came to £1650 ($2655) which also included paint and materials, did'nt calculate the man hours though.

    Ted, I would keep your car as original as possible. As it is, its one of the best represented Ts out there. Save your money for that 360/430 in a few years. just a thought.

    Hi Lino, ooh 550, -great V12 car. Love that car ever since I saw it in Bad Boys movie.
    That's a great coupe and would look sweet next to your T Lino.

    Man, there are so many nice cars out there, we are doomed gentlemen, -crazy car guys.
    I've been looking at the Vanquish also, as the prices come down, awe so tempting.

    I hear this a lot of late that recent Frankenstorm salvage titled cars are totaled and the general thinking is Total was done as the engines require rebuilding coupled with wiring issues. I get the electrical Salvage concerns but why the rush to judgment (Totaling) to assume the engine has to be removed and blue printed ?

    Why not take the plugs out and suction out any water that got in ?

    Salt water does a lot of damage, the internals will need more than pull plugs and crank

    Also, the insurance don't like writing cheques, even less having to reassess damage after the initial estimate

    Depending on how deep the water got, sea water is salty and would corrode engine parts etc much faster than just water.
    Since a Ferrari would not have a snorkel like a Jeep used in high water crossing, the water would go thru the air intakes and pretty much destroy anything that was not water tight.
    Hence -engine rebuild. Not to mention the electronics would be toast. But yes, it would depend on how hi the water got as to count it a total loss to which I'm sure the insurance guys would know best!
    Calculating a car to be a total loss is nothing more than determining if the replacement value for the car would be same or cheaper than paying to get it fixed properly. 9 out of 10 times, repair costs out ways replacement cost, so here's your check Mr. My Car got destroyed in Sandy !!!

    I don't know how salty Burmese ground water might be, but just before Christmas I had a look at a previously wonderful early-'30s classic that had been caught in the New York floods. Seawater and a connected live battery, plus magnesium and aluminium engine, gearbox and back-axle casings, create a passable colander very, very quickly indeed. During its three or four days underwater it must have been fizzing like an Alka-Selzer. Steel gears, shafts and bearings were plainly visible with no need to 'remove' the perforated castings... The damage was simply incredible considering such relatively brief immersion. Lloyd's of London takes another hit...
