Compare it to your iPhone alignment app :)

...or roll the car forward on smooth surface and watch for any changes as the wheel rotates ;)

Longacre are highly regarded for motorsport equipment. This thing is beautifully made and high precision. It uses spirit levels to produce readings, not quite as accurate as a laser based aligner, but a bit hard to find one of those at a circuit!

What I've found on the daytona is sadly typical, the mechanic at the alignment shop decided that a half degree wasn't worth the time and hassle to drop control arms to adjust.

If I'd had my gadget then, I would have picked up the issue before I drove the car out of the shop.

You have to make sure the floor is perfectly level first, right? Can you use one of the levels for that? Which model did you buy? How do you ensure it's attached perfectly perpendicular to the wheel?

So many questions, so little time!

Agree, but their equipment is generally used in racing applications so most at a track will do a set up on day one and set scales flat and then use that device. I like it.

On the other hand, for the average person to use it at home would be a waste of time which is what I think you are referring to.

EDIT, point 1 of their instructions make it clear. ;) http://www.longacreracing.com/instructions/inst.asp?instid=5

    EDIT 2: KIAPP :D

a builder's spirit level tells you if the floor is flat. Faiiing that, pour a litre of water on the floor and watch if it flows away. Pit garages at good circuits are always level. A lot of guys muck around with lengths of string and spirit levels, this seemed a much better idea to me.

The gadget is always perfectly perpendicular, it has a ring of magnets so it kind of guides itself on. Importantly, it doesn't need the wheel on the car, which is one reason I chose this model, the other being compactness - I already have too much stuff I have to take to a meeting.

Fair enough. I can't see it being accurate the way you have it attached to the Daytona in your photo though. Just sayin'

tyre pressures could throw it off as well, but in principle it's a great idea :)

Actually it hurts to say this, but the current crop of AMs are the best looking cars around (except for 458 which I really like)

    I think it looks amazing.

Good thing he wasn't going fast.

However, pretty good attempt at a "Save" under the circumstances.
