Hi all Whilst I was redoing the arm rest on the doors, I decided to change out the switches for the smaller Torrix, same as Land Rover and many others use. Its a 5 pole switch unlike the 6 pole Ferrari ones, but the extra wire was a doubled up +in. The drivers side and the passenger side works fine from the drivers door switch, but the passenger side will not function from the passengers switch. Can someone please draw a diagram to show how I should connect these up. Looking at the switch on its side it has 5 poles, 1=+out, 2=earth, 3=+in, 4=earth, 5=+out. Guys, Im still having problems with this, its driving me mental .Question: Does the passenger side window motor take 12v+ down each wire I,e, the two yellow and black wires going into the motor ? The wiring diagram shows a Blue/black wire supplying the 12v feed to the drivers side passenger switch, and then two Yellow wires going out to the passenger side switch. I think these are live when the original switches are installed ! is this correct ?
Steve, I cannot help you but have you looked in your owners manual at the schematic in the rear? Also, one of the guys here (Paul308?) has PAINSTAKENLY blown-up and color coded all the electrical schematics for many of the cars. Check the F-Chat ADs section above and you should find the exact guy very quickly.
+1 this is what you need I don't have a diagram for your car specifically, but on my QV, the 2 yellow wires go to the motor for the passenger side, and they are normally held ground. One wire or the other is brought to +12V when the switch it pushed. The blue wire is the one bringing power from the fusebox on mine. I'm unsure about the replacement switch you mentioned though, but if you're doing any electrical work I highly recommend buying Paul's diagrams. I even had the full size one printed to a laminated poster. Edit: To put it another way, the stock switches are 2 separate SPDT momentary switches, normally closed to ground.
I have bought these wiring diagrams but still not sure how that circuit works. The secret lies in the original switches, and It doesnt help matters by retro fitting different ones. The diagrams are good but I still cannot see how the power flows from the drivers side switch to the passenger side motor through the passenger side switch. What does 2 separate SPDT momentary switches mean? Im turning off the lights now as its late here, try again in the morning. Thanks to you guys for helping, I really appreciate it.
Steven, I suspect yours may have been modified. Every 308 I have seen has the switches in the center console. Do you have an interior shot?
Jonny, No. Not so. Some had the switches on the door arm and the horsey was located on the center tunnel (not ash tray top) where you have always seen the switches. Sorry but I cannot give the exact dates but this was on the earlier cars (USA) certainly before 1980. Anyone have better data please post away.
Oops I am looking at your wiring diagram and just realized you have 3 switches (2 on drivers side 1 on passenger side) rather than the 2 in the center console. Editing this post for now since it would've been really confusing. I think I understand your problem now though, I'll see if I can figure out what's going on in the diagram.
I think it is '79 and earlier that have the switches on the arm rest. My 308 was made in December of '79 (USA) and the switches are in the arm rest. I recollect that '80 and later had them in the center console but I am not certain on that.
Stephen, You are correct. The original behavior would have been while not pressing anything: both yellow wires coming from driver's side to passenger side switch should be +12v, getting power from the blue/black wire. If they aren't, the passenger side switch won't work, since it switches one of those wires to ground. If your ground and positive inputs are swapped on the driver's side passenger switch (resulting in ground on both yellow wires while not pressing anything), then you would have a situation where both driver's side switches work fine but the passenger side switch doesn't. This is very different from the behavior of the 2 switch system in the console that I'm used to, so please disregard my previous posts. Hope that helps.
After verifying the yellow wires are getting +12v power to the passenger side switch when nothing is pressed, if you have replaced all 3 switches with the new 5-pin type, you will need to wire the passenger switch sightly differently than the others, since it acts as a "pass through" for the other side. I'm attaching a crude diagram. Pins 1 and 5 remain your outputs to the motor, while pins 2 and 4 pass through the yellow wires coming from your driver's side switch. Pin 3 is now your ground. They moved to the center console along with all the other cosmetic changes in 1980 with the introduction of CIS.
One more question: Can someone tell me which wires go to which contacts on the old switches, i,e, theyre labeled A to D with the two outside contacts not labeled. I cut off the old Connectors without taking notes !! Thanks Brad, I think this is where I'm going wrong. I need to look at the drivers side switch again. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've just found out the switches I'm installing are the same as a GT4, maybe the wiring is the same as my 77 GTB ?
From my collection of helpful info from some Fchatter who figured this out for us... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks guys, all is OK, I feel like such a ****. Thanks to you Ron I could see what I was doing wrong. This is the best forum ever !!!.
