We've heard all of what's in that C&D article before. Similar attempts to introduce a new Maserati at exactly that same price level were announced in the 1990's. That yielded the 3200GT started by Detomaso and finished by Fiat management. That car took forever to arrive. The QPIV also arrived under Fiat. The 3200GT was well north of $65K and never made it to the USA. Then It got a rework from Ferrari and finally arrived here well over $100K. Judge those cars as you may but they were at least fully engineered by Maserati/Fiat and then given a really nice engine (for Maserati & Ferrari) by Ferrari.

The Ghibli name got misappropriated first by Fiat management for the Ghibli II. I own one of those and I think the car was a terrific update but they should have left the name alone.

What a four door sedan on whatever the underpinnings turn out be with a Chrysler sourced engine is doing with such a historic name as Ghibli is unfathomable from an enthusiasts viewpoint.

So technically this will be the Ghibli III.

    Quattroporte Piccole

    or

    Quattroporte Picole Veloce (490hp version)

sound better on this continent ...

I just noticed that in July 2012 edition of Automobile magazine they show a potential name of "Maseratina". Yuck!
