You'll have to use the search function. I'm pretty sure it's in December though so you can just select that months worth of messages and page through them. The volume isn't that big. VLG Yahoo. I think I made a comment so you could filter my posts in December to save some time. The photos in that ad are a mish mash of actual? car photos and factory stock photos.

Thanks for the links, and it is clear that really, the only difference between the late S2 and early S3 is the dash and the rubber bumpers below the stainless ones. That is probably why the asking price is the same for either car. My advise to an Espada buyer would be: For a museum, get an S1. For a driver, get a late S2 or early S3, depending on how big a deal the dash is.

Question, how many S3 Espadas have you seen with the rear air conditining system that fits between the seat backs and the storage area? It has separate controls on the lower left dash, and provides a separate cooling system for the back seat passengers. Was this a factory installation, or Lambo North America, or dealer installed?

I know of one and friend of mine rode in it many years ago. It was an owner modified car.

Either than one or one like it just sold on eBay to a new owner who is also on here and if that's you my apologies. Philippe may know more about this. I do remember one last year some time being sold out of the east coast too. It might be the same car?

I've seen S3 cars without the rubber tits or the cutouts in the bodywork for them. I don't know if that was they came from the factory or an owner mod?

It's hard for me to pass on the Miura wheels though. S2 cars got better rotors, and CV joints. The AC in the earlier ones is not supposed to be very good, mines non op at the moment. It's mostly a poor airflow thing combined with all that glass and very poor insulation in the roof. While the S3 is supposed to be better I think the one with the added rear system tells the story. Not so great in the S3 either. The system in the S1 intrigues me as they have an evaporater and fan on each side in the rear behind the panel. I wonder if that could be made to work well with more modern components and leave the cargo compartment un cluttered?

There's a new low mileage and very original S2 owner on here and VLG who is going through his car meticulously and he IS adding the electric steering. That seems like a much better idea than trying to add the original components To a S1 or S2 without it.

Hey, they're all nice. Getting one that's not a mess is the most important thing. Not so easy to do. Typically it won't be $30K unless you get very lucky.

    Espada gods:
    its confirmed !
My Espada and I and a guest have been invited to grace the lawn in March at Amelia Island Concours in Florida.
Huge thanks to Gary Bobileff for thinking of me when asked by show founder Bill Warren "I need to the find the nicest Espada in North America to attend our show as part of a 50th Anniversary Lamborghini celebration:!!!
Truly a humbling honor to be chosen and validation of my enthusiasm to the car , the marque and all efforts to bring it back to life so to speak .
I will have all Espada guys in this forum and VLG there with me in spirit for that very special show . I am also going to attend the Tour of Amelia on Friday and hopefully rub bumpers (sort of) with some of the greatest cars ever.

    thanks again Gary Bobileff.
and thanks to Bill Warren the Amelia Concours founder for paying for the shipping all the way from the frozen tundra and back WOW!)

Here's my Grandpa's Espada and this picture was taken at his home in California some time in the early 70's. The car was actually more of a tourquoise color but it looks blue in this picture.

Well I posted this because I was thinking the same thing after looking at your profile picture. I don't have any other pictures that I have access to but I have seen other pictures of it before and my dad said it was turquoise. I think he owned it from about 1970 to 1980 but those dates are rough. Was Lloyd Olson one of the previous owners of your car?

Well I showed him the pictures and he said that it looks like the exact car to him. I probably would not have posted anything here but the unusual color and mirrors mounted the same way seemed like too much of a coincidence to me. He said that he sold it to an Asian man named John around 1980. He also said that it was keyed once and that there was a small scratch on the left rear fender from that and that he had put weird stuff on the engine. The next owner may have repaired that though. Is yours a 1970 model? My dad said my grandfather's was a 1970.

Hey Gary -- my wife and I will be there as spectators. This is really a great event. Congrats on being invited. As the former owner of a Series 1 and then a Series 3, I'm really excited for you and can't wait to see your car.

The engine was bone stock looking and everything looked liked it had been there for quite some time so what was the weird stuff?

After 36 years (when I bought it) it had plenty of small stuff in the paint but no scratch as though it had been keyed. But that's a long time and yes it might have been touched up?

I purchased it out of San Diego but before that I only know that it was sold by a place in the state of Washington.

Does he have any documentation at all? That might help to nail it. It's a great color called Acqua Verde and the interior is Senape (mustard) but it looks more like light tan. It's registered as a 1971 but it was shipped from the factory on September 11, 1970.

I'm not sure that the mirrors on the fenders are definitive. I've seen others with mirrors there but not those chrome plastic Sebring ones.

    So a maybe? :)

Any documentation he may have had is long gone by now. The date it was shipped over is about right, the color is the same, the interior is the same, and the mirrors are the same but it looks like we will never know for sure. Any modifications he made to the engine or scratches in the paint may have been repaired by previous owners long ago. Either way your car is really gorgeous and I hope you enjoy it for years to come.

Thanks. I am curious as to what he would have done to I assume dress up the engine?

This one was pretty unmolested except for repainting some of the black in engine compartment here and there. The PO to me did have some work done on the cams and at that time the valve covers and other bits got badly re-painted with wrinkle paint that's all coming off now. So maybe he had painted them red or something?
The air cleaner boxes were stock and look about that old.

If your GF had it registered as a 1970 I wonder how it got changed to 1971?
Maybe he was a bit confused about that?

I can see a car shipped in 9/1970 then being sold in 1971 and registered as a 71.
That's what I've assumed so far.

The car may have been registered as a '71. My dad said that he put an electric starter on it. If I ever find any paperwork or VIN numbers I will post them on this thread.

That would be most welcomed. At a minimum it looks like the car you remember!

"My dad said that he put an electric starter on it."

That one needs further explanation though the idea of hand cranking a Lamborghini V12 is interesting ... :)

Haha well I guess that was not the right term to use. He changed the ignition system because he had problems with the factory starter. He sold the car after his mechanic quit.

That still makes no sense. The starter motor and ignition system are unrelated.

In any even I can can no evidence of any such mods to either the physical starter system or the ignition system.

Discussed back in may : #7090 for sale during Rétromobile

    http://www.artcurial.com/fr/asp/fullCatalogue.asp?salelot=2219+++++354+&refno=10427624

    French registration
    Chassis n°7090

    - 300 km/h for four!
    - Typically 1970s
    - Car has spent its life in France
    - One of just 186 Series 1 cars
    - No reserve

Building on the success of the Miura, Lamborghini tackled a new challenge - to produce a four-seater "supercar" that would combine sportiness and roominess. The first signal of this intent appeared at the 1967 edition of the Geneva Motor Show in the form of the Marzal, the work of the brilliant Marcello Gandini, a recent recruit at design house Bertone. At the Geneva Motor Show of 1968, Lamborghini unveiled the Espada, the more realistic production version, signed by the same designer. The car boasted of very impressive performance, thanks to the extraordinary 3.9L V12 that the car shared with the Miura. In its ultimate version, the Series III, the Espada offered even more performance, that of 350bhp.
In metallic grey, this car on offer was first registered on January 8, 1969 by its first owner, an avid Lamborghini fan living in the Hauts-de-Seine region of France. This is a model from the first series. For the record, we note that on 8th January 1969, importer Cars Paris Monceau also registered another Espada, that for the famous French star Jacques Dutronc, who had acquired the year a yellow Miura P400! On 3rd November 1971, the car was sold to Metz where it was registered 4782 RQ 57, and the car changed hands once again less than a year later. Indeed, it came back to Paris, bought by Mr. Lucien D'Amato and registered on August 9th 1972 with the registration number 1493 YM 75. Note that the Ferrari Daytona proposed in our sale (frame 16119) from the same family of enthusiasts, namely Michel Amato, the brother of Lucien. The car was then sold on the first day of 1975 through Central Garage at 52 rue Lecourbe in Paris, the Lamborghini returning to Lorraine in Nancy this time, where the registration number was changed to 2330 TL 54. The current owner is crazy about the brand, and has a 350 GT and two other Espadas, not to mention a beautiful Citroen DS cabriolet! He told us: "I am selling the Espada to allow another Lamborghini fan to join the 50th anniversary of the marque this year ... and I covet a Miura, so I would prefer looking for one instead! '
This car has the elegant dash worthy of a sci-fi movie and is inspired by the Marzal prototype, plus with a fantastic engine, deserves the attention of fans, especially since it is at a price level lower than many cars that are of comparable specifications and prestige.
