Wolff supposedly doesn't know anything of this if that's the case.

Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff gives Ross Brawn his backing - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com

I'm amazed at the shake-up going on. Mark my words, MB have titles (yes, plural) coming very soon.

I also heard Mercedes are expanding their German-based F1 facilities. Very vague, but there is further building happening directly at the source. So that would make in essence 3 facilities. Brackley, Brixworth (engines), and Germany R&D.

Dunno, you also said that the RB8 wasn't going to be a championship winning car.

I said it wouldn't dominate, and it didn't, neither was it the quickest car, just the most consistent. Mclaren was the quickest, and Mclaren without a doubt will have the quickest car going into 2013 if Button and Chico can handle it.

I'm pretty sure you said it wouldn't be a title winner but whatever.

Seems to me like its turning into a corporate structured mess.

It's not rocket science, get one man to take charge leave him to it to build a super car.

I thought that would be Ross B, seems not, the axe is coming down because of poor results, a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth IMO.

hey no big, I even made a thread in early March called, "Why Red Bull will not dominate". I simply suggested Red Bull wouldn't walk away with the titles. And it was looking for bad for Seb there for a while! Had Mclaren not been taken out by either Williams so often and not been stuck with gearbox issues so often they would have won the WCC and WDC IMO. Bad luck!

I can't believe that all of the change is a sign of good things coming. Typically stability is a sign of success, although if you're not winning I guess it's time. When Head left Williams two or three years ago things changed for the better.

I agree with the above that two many cooks in the kitchen could be the current undoing. I for one still think they've looked in the wrong places for change. Don't think the drivers were the issue, don't think Brawn is the issue, don't think Haug was the issue. Bringing Lauda in isn't a solution...

Part of the fun I guess for us will be watching what happens! I would love to have someone from the inside write a tell all so we can know what all really happened here.

Then a month later in my thread and retracted that position only suggesting no one would walk away with it, which they didn't hence why Newey was forced to compromise RB9s development

    no biggie

That being said, mark this post today and quote me later. RB9 will be a championship contender, and if Jensen clearly leads Mclaren and drives the wheels off that car then we could be looking at another title for Jenny. Mclaren really had MP4-28 dialed in at the end of 2012 and I suspect they will build on that.

I'm pretty sure he has indeed said exactly that.... "Oops!".... OTOH, he'd say the same about whoever happened to be in charge I guess - It's all PR spin.

    That's my take! ;)

I can't find it now, but IIRC they've now got close to the Board with 40%, Toto with 40% and Niki with 10% [10% "other"?] If that's true, Niki holds the balance of power!

Then comes at least 3 "team principal" type guys (& ego's!) Then more aero nerds than they can possibly know what to do with. And they're on a hiring spree.

I guess I wish 'em the best, but this really is starting to look very top heavy.

Same kind of comment as we see from GM's in other sports just ahead of their firing their managers/head coaches. ;)

    Uh-oh!

I agree that the team and "Advanced powertrains" should be separate, but why the hell do they want another shop in Germany?

    Interesting stuff in any event.

    Cheers,
    Ian

I think, if he's "ousted" you may well be right.....

Both he & Sir Frank are racers thru & thru and he'd be one hell of a leader. And probably happier than the mess he seems to be in right now!

    Cheers,

The MB engine might win some championships. In the back of a customer car.

The MB cars will never win a title.

As for Ross Brawn: Last time I criticized him, folks on here said "Underestimate Brawn at your own risk". Funny how things go in circles...

I'm not a betting man, but I'd be confident in gambling counterpoint to the above position.

Without a time horizon this could be a long lasting bet. I have a similar one already going regarding Hami winning another WDC. Problem is in a few years we will have forgotten about it etc.

Well, he said "exhaust same as RB5. This car will not be a world champ car."... and technically, he was correct. THAT car, with the old style exhaust, was not a winner and would not have won the title. The heavily revised car with the modified Coanda exhaust, different floor with slots and channels to guide exhaust gas, etc. was the car that started winning races. :D It took Newey a lot of effort to eventually turn the RB8 into a championship winning car - as it stood out of the box, at the time of Ferraripilot's post, that car was not a world champ car.

As for MB and the cooks - for many years when spending wasn't restricted, McLaren ran two design teams, each responsible for the alternating year cars. Newey McLarens only ran every other year - was it Paddy Lowe, or Mike Coughlan, who was the designer for the alternate years? I never thought it was a great idea, as you'd lose the continuity of building on one design philosophy year on year, versus the Ferrari philosophy with Byrne designing each year, or the Red Bull Newey years where he's designed great cars multiple years in a row. Now, Ferrari have announced that they are running 2 design teams, one for this year's car and one team focussing on the 2014 car. I'd bet that Mercedes will be doing the same - a couple of their star designers and former technical directors will be on the 2013 car team, and a couple of them will be focussing on the 2014 car already.
