Hey guys, I have an A4 with a 5speed and its started to make a squealing noise when I accelerate. It happens in 1st and 2nd when accelerating from a very low speed or completely stopped. It sounds rotational and gets faster until it goes away completely at about 20mph. It happens both letting off the clutch and with the clutch fully engaged.

The noise produces no vibrations. I must have a belt slipping, right?

Sounds like a belt slipping. As a test put some baby powder on the inside. If it is belt slippage that should stop it from squeaking for a few weeks. It is not a long term fix but you will know what it is.

I personally do not own an Audi but if you press on the belt midway it should deflect about a 1/2 inch or so. If you chose to adjust the belt yourself be careful not to make it to tight. You could damage a bearing on something.

    Good luck

Thanks guys. Any chance it could be clutch related?

    Yeah it's a Quattro.

The noise doesn't seem to cause any vibration but seems to be getting louder.
