I sold the car several years ago, but retain a lot of interesting original parts. One part of interest, is the original belly pan for this 375MM spyder as manufactured by the factory in 1953. complete with it's original grease and grim as it as raced over the years to numerous victories.... How do you value something like this when everyone today is striving for originally over making NEW again... any help would be appreciated.. (and when was the last time anyone has seen a bellpan on an older restored Ferrari)

Why don't you contact the buyer of the car, and give them to him (or her)? The parts came off the car and should stay with the car. That would be the ethical thing to do.

I will buy the parts, if the price is reasonsable

Let the group, help you with the pricing.

Keep in mind. I dont need the parts and any one with an opinion doesnt have a car

I have 40 wheels for a 375, willl let many go cheap. No one needs them!

    Cars are all done!

Sorry, but I do own a car. My hope is that when my car is sold (hopefully after I have gone to the race track in the sky) that any parts (wheels included) that are scattered around my garage will be going with the car. Making money on parts withheld from a prior sale seems to be a standard operating procedure for some people. Tool bags and such, being sold on Ebay to the highest bidder, appear everyday (these items belonged at onetime to a certain car in the majority of cases). If you need to make money from selling parts taken from or purchased for a previously sold car, please do not make a moral judgment on those of us that do not. Thanks.

can we focus on the topic I presented in this thread...and that is an old original bellypan and it's estimated worth.... A discussion on the morals of having old parts and what to do with them, Please start a new thread and I'll even add to that discussion... thank you....

Regarding the price and taken into account the rarity of the part I would guess 500-800 usd.

    Len,

You more-or-less started the thread with 'I sold a car but kept a lot of original bits for it'. Had you added 'that the new owner didn't want' or some other explanation, you would have kept the thread in line.

    Regards,

    Art S.

PS. I think I bought my belly pan (for a 330 GT 2+2) for about $150 on ebay a few years ago. My mechanic had a few choice words then said leave it in the garage, not on the car. I suspect yours is worth a bit more than mine- to the right person. Since Tom S. has one, I suspect his offer will be higher than most.

PPS. What other interesting car tidbits do you have?

One of the issues is that these cars were hand built, especially a 375 MM. So while it is a rare part, it is unlikely to fit any other cars except for the one 375 MM that it came off of.
It is all supply and demand, there are not very many 375MM owners out there that are looking for belly pans.

If you know the chassis number of the car, you could offer it to the present owner of the car, but I would not expect to get any more than what Tom has already offered you. Especially if someone has already made a new one for the car.

If you had original 375MM parts like carburetors, magnetos, major engine parts, brake parts, then they would be worth something.

Why did the mechanic suggested to leave it out of the car?
Incidentally looking for belly pan for my 250GTE, doubt that the 375MM will fit! And I am afraid will cost more to make a repro than 500 USD except by panel beaters in China.

hanging it on a wall in my gargage..as a decorative piece (of history). At this point in time..the car it was originally on is worth maybe $8Mil. (???) ... and I have the one and only original bellypan from that car as hand made at the factory in 1953...It was there, and participated at all the races ...won all the races the original car had won...it is as rich in history as the whole car is....So what is that worth??? SO you cann't afford the entire car???? how about a piece of it... Or is it just a piece of 'ol scrap metal...LOL .....Now..I'm curious ...so what does one do with it?? And how do you value it? your thoughts?

Until an s/n is posted with detailed pictures all this is just words. Remember that 1950s Ferrari for sale a number of years ago in France[???} which even M.M. got involved with and the owner[??] refused pictures, s/n, details, location and even a face to face meeting. It went on for pages of postes on Ferrarichat and finally ,as it should, died on the vine.Is this the same thing??? tongascrew
