"On offer today is this interesting project started by one of the UK's leading Ferrari specialists. It is based on a 1975 Ferrari 308GT4 chassis, and incorporates a Ferrari 360 engine and a manual gearbox producing over 400BHP from a front end damaged 360 which had only covered 22,000 miles from new and had just received a major service by a Ferrari main dealer. The steering, suspension and new brakes are from a Ferrari 328; in fact the only non Ferrari part is the new 206/246 fibreglass body which is made to the correct dimensions of the original car in France. The car is supplied with a correct windscreen, a set of 308 Dino instruments, Ferrari seats and other parts required to complete it, and also comes supplied with the V5C registration document and the SORN certificate. This is an opportunity to build a classic Ferrari, which could be left or righthand drive, for a fraction of the cost of the original, but still with the power to beat any of its contemporaries on the track."

    An "opportunity"?

Not an opportunity, imho this is closer to a nightmare. I do not see where the added value over the sum of the parts is.

I wonder how they fitted the 360 motor into that supposedly correct Dino body?

The body is very correct, i have seen the guys work who produces these particular body shells.

The big question here is what it will take to complete this project as a drivable car, i can't believe who ever started this project would have aborted and chose to sell if they thought they could complete it.

This car would have massive interest at more than double the auction estimate if completed.

Yes and it would probably be someone who owns a real 246 Dino that would pay silly money for it.

That thing is a nightmare. Why do people constantly copy Ferrari's with fake or mixed up confused crap like this when buying a real one is within reach of the masses?

    Sick.

Aside from it being a Dino pretender, I think it would be a blast to drive this rig.

    I dunno.

$40K USD for that (Brooklands estimate 21-25K GPB) might be kind of fun.

Put some Dino wheels on it, find and fit some nice chrome bumpers, add some serious mechanic time to finish what the other guys started and some elbow grease and you've got?

a $90K car that's prettier than a 360, just as fast or faster and it only cost $25-35K more than a similarly equipped 360 would.

    Hmmm . . . on second thought.

Oh, and with a nice late 70's suspension, to boot.

    Pass.

Interesting concept, but not convinced I would buy it if I had the money.

Well MOST people in America can afford a 28K car!!!! In FACT, I see a lot of 30K minivans driving around here every day, so what is your point?

Many of the 50% of america who don't pay taxes have 3K flat screen TV's and all kinds of ***** they don't need...if they would quit buying cigarettes @ $6 a pack x3/day and starbucks even they could afford to buy one.

I seem to constantly have this conversation with some of my buddies. They seem think I WASTED the $50k-ish I spent on my 355GTS. No amount of reason can get them to understand that the $60k they spent on Escalades, Raptors or F250 King Ranch trucks is evaporating every day, while my Ferrari gives me much more enjoyment and a far better ROI. Of course I can do all my own service work, so that changes the typical argument~!

I wrote an article (above) arguing exactly the same about my 355, and I still went out and bought a C63 AMG afterwards(below), thereby managing to be on both sides of the argument simultaneously.

Yes, I would agree Most people could afford the "Initial Cost" of the Ferrari you used as an example to support your premise. The REAL question is ...."Could they afford a $20,000.00 motor replacement"???!!...or the other related maintenance costs that QUICKLY make the initial purchase price seem trivial?!.....I for "1" would never use the lowest entry level Ferrari to make my point, surprised you didn't use a Ferrari 400 as an example....Mark

I think this thread doesn't belong in the 206/246 section. Move it instead to the "Vintage/Miscellaneous Crap" section.

There are people here who find this car interesting, i honestly don't see why Dino owners take such offence, the body shell is not doing the original shape a disservice and the car is not claiming to be something it is not, plus the fact the car in question so far away from being completed so i don't see why it's being slated, it's just a bunch of parts as it stands.

If Ferrari had made a LTD number of Dino's with a fibre glass bodyshell and a V8 ferrari engine like they did with the 308 they would command a premium over any production 246-206.

Really some Dino owners are the worst, always price watching praying the cars they bought when they were worth little are now out of reach of "mere mortals".

If this car was put together in Italy you would be dribbling over it.

Have you seen what some of the new transmissions cost to replace in ford or chevy trucks?
