Yes, thanks for posting. OK, I don't get it. What's the difference between the added facia to the nose and just making the nose smooth in the first place?

The nose is *strong* and must pass some serious crash tests without exceeding the maximum height ahead of where ever the step is at.

This "modesty panel" (which I'm surprised to see TBH) is non-structural and won't take a guys head off - It'll simply disintegrate in a shunt.

    Cheers,
    Ian

How was McLaren able to get around the step-nose requirements? Did they employ a modesty panel and we all just assumed they had a smoother nose versus the graduated design?

I thought the regulations were just the opposite. I thought noses were getting lower and lower and the regs created a minimum height ahead of the step. Do I have that wrong?

    Yep!..... ;)

Mclaren were one of the few that hadn't gone as high as allowed prior to this past season - All the others were "raising" theirs noses to get as much air as possible underneath.

Charlie decided the possibility of someone getting speared warranted lowering the forward section and apart from Mclaren they all did that with the step.

There's some comparison pix somewhere (probably posted herein?) that show it quite well.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Oh yeah, I remember now. It seems like Ferrari could make a nose that has a smooth transition from the front of the nose to the cockpit and still pass the crash tests. I guess they've already thought of that.

"More than one way to skin the cat....." [Spec series? FU! ;)]

I'm sure they haven't just thought of it, but tested it in the 'puters & the tunnel :)eek: - Whether that's good or bad is another Q! ;)).

Another thing to remember is the pickup points have gotta go somewhere! The "step" was the solution most of 'em came up with as we know.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Just noticed that there's gotta be something awry in that pic!..... I can't believe Ferrari's rear wing is ~6" [150mm ;)] lower than the Mc's.

    Hmmmm.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

Just another "F.U." to the notion of a spec-series....

So you're not interesting in their revised cooling system, exhaust, sidepod design etc? You're all business sir, if it's fast it doesn't matter what it looks like right.

Unlike you I don't grasp the technological details. Nor do I care particularly. WDC points is my world. :)
