Lotus will unveil the car live, I will post pics soon.
About the new car Kimi Räikkönen says: "I don't know... Just leave me alone..." http://www.youtube.com/lotusf1team
Lotus has such a hot-plate driver with Kimi and they know they have a few gags they can get out of him. Perhaps "who can win a staring contest vs Kimi" type thing, would be priceless.
Not a whole lot shaken up from E20. Different sidepod internal packing as they now have a RB ramp style exhaust. The new front wing is interesting, very much life Ferrari's minus the 6 outer elements near the end plate. The diffuser vexes me, probably just a launch spec but if their spec for Melbourne is at all like this minus the extended gurney tab then they are in for it in a bad way IMO. E21 does not have pullrod suspension. There is a very crude version of Mclaren's downwash generator horizontally mounted just above the sidepod intakes, I fully expect a better version of this and quick. Rear wheel brake ducts are new, very trick, lots of elements. And lastly, the Pelican jowels under the front nose is gone. James Allison stated they would only implement a "modesty panel" if it will add downforce. Also, the passive DRS system will be present for pre-season testing with the goal to utilize the system at the start of the season. The front wing is significanlty different to the E20 as are the sidepods. The rear area is much smaller and it has RB style exhaust, also a big change. Plus, as mentioned, the rear brake area is much more complex. I am sure there is more to come pre-season but I like it so far!
Much of the front wing reminds me of a simpler version of the late F2012 wing, minus the multi-element outboard wings meeting the endplate that is.
No one did, but Merc did test it more than anyone has. I suspect we will see a good number of teams testing the system at Jerez
Merc had the back to front one, right? And that's outlawed if correct. Is the triple at the back too?
Ok I get it. Some pics show the passive drs which is still allowed. They developed an active one last year which they never raced and is now outlawed. Their active double drs was carrying air upwards to stall the wing when opened, oppositely to the Merc's that was carrying it downwards to the front to stall the front wing. They say they will use the passive but they removed it from the car just before launch. Ferrari's rumours describe the common double drs that goes through the back wing downwards that should have been outlawed. I am going to start smoking again.
The whole steering wheel is a Lotus joke. References to funny things from last year. The open gate is for when Kimi went off track. Notice the "Finishing position" is dialed to 1. There's also an ice-cream button and dial mum.
Another year, another different naming convention from Ferrari. Is this a game to them, to see how many different conventions they can come up with to name their F1 cars? When was the last time they used the same convention 2 years in a row? Even Toro Rosso, Caterham, Marussia can have a naming standard that allows a logical evolution from one year to the next, but Ferrari can't manage it.
