    3 things..

    1) lack of use.
    2) Thinking about an old Porsche...1973 RS. Those start at $350k...
    3) Maybe a Dino.

I am a driver and love the car. Like I said...tossing the idea around. Maybe I have forgotten what a PITA old cars can be.

Unless u are really REALLY wanting one of the older classics, simple solution, rectify #1. Good Track time may make #'s 2,3 fade away.

Yes. Every once in awhile you have to scratch the old car itch, then go into the cure for another decade or two. :)

1973 RS's don't start at $350K. The national quality concours RS's top out around there. 1973 RSR's start there and go up. Either way, if you are a driver, that's not what you want. You can find an RS clone built from a 1969-73 donor with perfect mechanicals for $80K. Accurate clones match true RS performance exactly, and they won't depreciate $80K in the first track weekend like a $350K museum RS will.

I recently considered selling mine as well, but I think I've come to my senses!! There has been SOOO much talk and interest with recent and prospective Scud purchases the past few months, that it really confirms what a spectacular car this is! Especially given the price range of anything else available.

Having said that, I think your car is worth every bit of $190k+ without a doubt.

    Good luck regardless your decision.

    Hi guys,

    2 dealers offered $180-185k.

Not sure what I am going to do.

Being 100% honest..I do hate the depreciation. I am the second owner. Owner one paid $305+. I paid almost 100k less after he drove it for less than 500 miles.

Assuming the car is worth retail $190-195..I haven't lost too much in a year or so considering I paid around $200k. IF I were to retail it.

Flip side to all of this is there are classic Ferrari's, Porsches that could be had for the same money and have long term track records of appreciating in value. I know of a Dino that I could of bought this time last year for $200ish that is now worth at least $50k more. Bubble..maybe.

Old classic cars (certain old classic cars) are now being treated like art. As in Picasso. They are being hoarded by collectors and the prices are going up faster than any other security.

I watched a 73 Porsche 911 E sell earlier this month for $100k. Not including the 10% buyers premium. THAT car would of been worth less than $60k 18 months ago.

Maybe its possible to have a sweet sports car that you love AND make money on it vs settling for the effing BS depreciation.

At least u werent the 1st owner. Gotta know going in that $100K loss is possible with these high end cars. Murci, Scud, FF. how often do ya come across a picasso?

A fair actual selling price should be 192 +/-

Retail asking price would be higher, and will vary by dealer (miller would ask 210 for example and other dealers listing at 199 would be my guess)

Wholesale would be 170 +/- depending upon the dealers asking price plans and margin requirements. If a dealer will give you "180-185" cash (not trade in) you are doing better than average and they are taking a slightly smaller margin than typical.

That aside, the scud isn't "much" of a relative depreciation risk...but, it's a drivers car, not a classic/collectible in the spectrum of things...to keep it I would venture you gotta drive it like it was intended. They are amazing on the track...I for one wouldn't want a scud for "looking at" and "saying I own it". So I get your idea to trade it on something else if you can't find the time/place to use it adequately.

You can't lose if you sell it and get your classic. Either way you win. If you sell it and buy the classic your after and you're happy with the classic you win. If your not happy with the classic after a year and sell that, you should not lose money and be able to pick up a Scuderia much cheaper then what you sold yours for. You might actually save 20-30k (new 458 scuds come out in that period).

    excellent points all.

Had another offer for $185K from a dealer.

I am going to ponder this over the weekend and go from there.

Do appreciate the feedback and opinions.

(Side note, you guys see what the DOW did today? 14,000)

Your Scuderia is a +/- $195k car on retail price in the current market.

It is the same price you could have bought the car 30 months ago, because for 2 1/2 years the prices have stayed flat.

I don't think you're a driver, the car mileage says it all, so a classic car is a better move on your end.

As soon as the 458 Scuderia gets released (later this year), the Scuderia will take another $20k-$30k hit, despite of the 458 being a $350k when it arrives. Scuderias will keep losing value (despite of being flat for 30 months).

You can't go wrong with a well documented Dino or 1973RS. Both are good investments, and great looking cars. They are in my list of current valuable collectibles.
