Former Major-General turns firepower on Defence Minister Stephen Smith

    Quote:

The ''cash-strapped'' Gillard government has put its own political risk ahead of Australia's national security, a highly respected former general says.

Major-General Jim Molan, the commander of the 300,000 strong coalition force in Iraq in 2004, says Labor's management of Defence since 2009 has been ''appalling'' and is having a ''terrifying'' effect on the Australian Defence Force.

General Molan, now a public speaker and defence commentator, is scathing in his criticism of Defence Minister Stephen Smith, who he says has gone beyond ineffectiveness to actively damaging his portfolio.

'Mr Smith does not seem to like the ADF, does not seem to trust it, apparently does not want to be its chief executive, shows no public interest in its ultimate operational effectiveness, does not know how to measure efficiency or effectiveness [and] is risk averse in a portfolio that is all about risk,'' he said.

There is a nasty cancer in the ALP that has caused all the problems.

For the spread of the disease to cease that cancer must be cut out....................

The name of the cancer is:

The "Honourable" Member for Maribynong, Bill Shorten.

Also known in ALP circles as "Billy Bull****", "Little Willy Billy " and "Showbag"(He's got something for everyone),

It was interesting that when the Altona Moaner made the election announcement Bull**** Bill appeared to have been taken completely by surprise???

    Indeed they are regarding defacto.

But I hardly see how marriage is a religious thing. I did this is a sign of love for my wife. Religion has nothing to do with it. If it did, I wouldn't have done it.

Well the root of the concept of marriage comes from religion, but otherwise I agree with you but only because modern culture takes what it likes and uses it like it wants. We like the concept of marriage and even the non-religious of us have taken it on.

My point though is there is no need for people to get married for legal reasons. Nobody, no matter who they love are disadvantaged in this country ... legally.

To a religious person, marriage is about making a commitment not only to the other person but to their God. Remember many religions do not permit sex before marriage, etc. and childern born outside marriage are shunned, etc.

So in the end, just because in 2013 many people do not see marriage as a religious thing, it really is and any changes in this area will considerably affect religions that either need to move with the times or ...

A local real estate fellow was telling me he never liked Swan ever since he turned up at a Kindy fund raiser in mis-matched socks. Thought if he couldn't get his socks right what hope has he got with everthing else.

I can think of other reasons.

    I'm sure he'll go.

some interesting figures in this week's Economist.

China and India accounted for 83% of the world's increase in CO2 emissions in 2012.

In order to reduce China's forecast emissions growth from an ADDITIONAL 3 billion tonnes to 2 billion tonnes, they would have to reduce industrial output by 7%. In other words, it isn't going to happen.

I googled the International Energy Agency's 2012 report to put that in perspective. China's 2010 output was 7.2 billion tonnes. Australia's 383 million.

So, for the next 7 years, China will add the equivalent of Australia's total output each year.

Still think our carbon tax will save the planet?

    from the ALP website:

"The Prime Minister Julia Gillard outlined the Government’s plan to cut pollution, tackle climate change"

The carbon tax won't "tackle" climate change, it won't make the slightest difference.
