Prudent to check, but I would be a bit surprised and very empathetic if you were affected given the depth you had go through in 2011. If this is even 1000 to 1500 less, you should be right. Shouldn't you? If you need a hand, give me a call. Best of luck Jon.
Yes, this sort of rain is definitely not unprecedented, but nevertheless this is very heavy and constant. It's when the winds get over 80 kmh that people really start to worry. I've got a friend whose fathers place in North Ipswich went 4-5 metres under in January 2011. Modelling for this event now is 5.5 metres lower. A dozen of us went over and gave him a hand. He is in his early 80s. The 2011 flood, his second (1974 was even worse) has really affected him, in fact to be honest he is shellshocked. It's the mental anguish that will be starting to kick in for those previously affected. I really hope he doesn't have to go through this again.
0 cloud base and 0 visibility. Which of course is a slight exaggeration but effectively means cloud down to the ground (fog) and you can't see much ahead. As I said, it would be possible to put the aircraft on the runway in those conditions, but certainly not legal except in an emergency. A change of underwear and a large drink would also be required afterwards...
Just coming into the corner of my yard, hopefully no further at tomorrow's high tide. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think where I am it will depend on how much water is coming down the creek. I'm going in early tomorrow and will make a call on whether to move the cars.
Your chip is showing again John My cousin was a RAAF pilot and is now a Qantas captain, as far away from being a knucklehead as anyone could possibly imagine.
I always thought the 111 pilots brave when we were "fixing" the TFR (terrain following radar for Brettski ), to just sit there at 200' doing 480 knots heading straight towards a mountain waiting for the computers to pull up in time and then experiencing the heavy negative G as it pushed over the mountain. So after doing that, landing by computer would seem very safe
Sky news reports the peaks are now later on today. We copped about 1 ft in the 2011 flood but the map for this event shows nothing this time. I had been working in Victoria St Windsor daily up until last wk, glad I pulled all my gear out as that Street is now waist deep and it's not even the peak as yet.
Knucklehead was our pet name for them Ian I had some very good friends who were RAAF pilots and they trusted me implicitly when something went wrong and I was on the end of the headphones telling them whether it was safe to fly or not ..... they were also some of the biggest 'rogues and ratbags' I have ever met
I get it, the knuckleheads fly and the smart guys spanner, righty oh. Of course, the spanner guys don't have missiles shot at them. Was looking at a Neptune at the HARS museum south of Wollongong on Saturday, because the fuel bladders have passed end of life and it's too dangerous to remove them, the plane can never be made airworthy again. Ditto for several military craft there, which I guess is part of why they get them donated. The Super Constellation lives there too, well worth a visit.
Well, you haven't head from me 'cos all our telstra, internet and skype is controlled by a badly built tower somewhere in SEQ/central Qld and got knocked out. We're just back on now. I have to relay this scenario to you though. 1/ no Telstra mobile. 2/no """""""""" internet. 3/no skype. 4 optus works to optus. 5 optus works to HongKong. 6optus sms worked last night to HK,didn't this morning. 7 Telstra landline works locally(didn't try std.) 8 optus to landline doesn't work. 9 HK to landline doesn't work. 10 HK to optus doesn't work. Hope all's well down there fellas,I'll have to phone the real estate to see if me shed's ok. Karen's car's are in there,my 330 is at Marc's and the 365 is STILL at the painter's.

Gee you have to laugh....after hurling personal abuse at TDC911 over whether exotics fetch more money if they're previously owned by celebrities, not only was phil proven wrong by the facts (as usual) but our ex blackjag and goober backed up TDC's assertion...with further proof. I'm sure Phil will cross them off his christmas card list for that. lol Showed a very nasty side......................again.
Jeez, I feel for you guys - they announced on the news tonight the we have had 7mm for the whole of January
Lively discussion going on in Silver on the merits(or otherwise) of the mighty Prius,I'm sure there's no one here interested in joining the fray(mind you,a couple of yankee members have put their hand's up)
