One of the best challenge cars Ferrari ever made. I'm looking forward to see it finished.!

This car was driven to its 1997 Ferrari Challenge championship by Tom Papadopoulos (who also won the '98 championship - though I don't know if in the same car). Tom was profiled in the Feb 2013 issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car magazine - good story on Tom and his Autosport Designs company.

...only after removing the pan? surely it must have sounded pretty rough before the tear down!

    OK, now who won 1996 and 1999, placing 2nd in 1997 and 1998? :D

Ha! That's your car? I've got that model. Why did you go with silver? You should paint it white. ;)

I don't understand white, but #104504 was Steve's yellow 355 Challenge championship car, maybe the most models made of any Challenge car or maybe even Ferrari. Dr. Ed Martinez bought the car from Steve after 1999 when Steve went to the 360 Challenge. All the Houston cars went to Silver at that point with different colored stripes. Ed raced for a couple years and then I bought from his estate in 2003.

Does anybody know what Dr. Earle is up to? I saw his last Challenge race in Montreal (2003?), and the dude can drive. When I talked to him, he said something about racing in France.

He signed up for Challenge Club Racing, but I don't think ever did a race. I have never met him, I would actually like to some day. I like the silver w/Italian flag, but someday if I'm bored I'll restore to the yellow just like Steve won the championship.

You really should. Watching him before a race was a hoot. Coffee in hand and giving wedgies to all the other drivers. But during the race, he was something. Frankly, I enjoyed that Challenge race more than the F1. It was supposed to be his last race, and he drove like it. I know he was missing one mirror, maybe both.

PS One story I heard about Earle was that he wasn't able to buy an Enzo because he lived in Austin. Risi couldn't sell him one, and the SA dealer didn't have the allocation.
