Gorgeous plan Jay! Echo of Bob's comments; that starts to blur the line between model and full-on plane. Did you build it yourself, and if so could you share some build pics? What radio system are you using? How many flights does she have? Any video (with sound of course!) of the motor running would be very cool! Kongman - which P-51 did you get? My 1.5m FMS is a joy to fly and not what I consider especially unforgiving, but its definitely no trainer and landings in particular are a challenge. Making slow but steady progress on the 1.4m P-38 build up. Beefed up the mounts for aluminum landing gear, next will install and wire up the 7 servos, ESCs, UBEC then assemble the airframe. Not going to fit any gear door, at least until after she's made a few take offs and landings. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
i got the 1450mm blue nose p 51 ...paid for , just waiting to be unpacked from container , i will post some pics when i can FMS 1400mm P-51 Mustang v7 Review - YouTube this one
Sure it flies! This is a Balsa USA 1/3 scale kit. Although I can't take full credit for the build, I purchased a partially built frame from a guy who needed money for his full scale helicopter. (can't have everything I suppose) I spent two years finishing the balance of the construction. The engine is a MOKI 215 google for video, I don't have any. Not much of a picture taker but here are a few. OK! OK! I know the next question.....what is that big silver fuselage in the background. If you want to know I'll post some pics and info on that one. Neat! While I greatly admire German WWII planes don't think I'll ever get an RC one. As tempting as some of the latest foam kits (Stuka, FW190, BF109, ME262 etc) are I just image that it would give me something of a queasy feeling to fly one. No disrespect to anyone who does of course! Here's some nice flying with a Moki-equipped Bearcat: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX0HjyIlHCc]Grumman F8F Bearcat - Moki 250 - YouTube[/ame]
That's great video, and plane. Your aversion to 'axis' planes... assume a Zero would be off your list too, made me think of possibly British planes... I can't think of a single WWII British plane with a radial engine, even their bombers had watercooled engines.
Yup I'm sure a Zero would great to fly but again it would just give me the willies A Texan or a Corsair with a Moki, however, oh yeah! Looks like the power isn't exactly scale on these but hey it's better to have too much power than too little! Maybe the Lancaster had liquid cooled engines, but what about most versions of: Blenheim, Beaufort, Halifax, Hampden, Wellington? And don't forget the Beaufighter, Lysander, Sunderland and Swordfish.
As cool as Mokis are, even they don't do justice to the mighty Hercules! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEbDlNeMtLM]Bristol Hercules demonstration - YouTube[/ame]
Jay - I'd like to see and hear more about the silver one as well please! Do you fly only gas powered, or have any electrics? Gas seems like a pain in the a... compared to clean, easy electrons but I can definitely see the extra effort being worthwhile for a radial
I use gasoline for the most part but have smaller glow and electric planes for more relaxed flying. The silver plane is an amazing model. Its a CARF folding wing corsair I assembled/built for a friend. It has now been returned to him for the final detailing, cockpit, painting ect. The center wing section shows the fluid cell, pump and lines for the folding mechanism. The upper part of the photo showing the pneumatic control that sequences the doors and landing gear operation, and lines. All radio equip is top of the line JR with five redundant receivers digital display for batteries ect. I'll be in touch with the owner soon and I'll post some additional pics with the progress. As of now the plane is still not been flown. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
wow, that's something else! FIVE receivers?! Curious why 5, instead of say 3 (besides simply "more is better", or is that it)? I bet it takes a battery pack as big as the main ones I use for my 1.5m electrics, just for the servos and receivers! The linkages for the folding wings look impressive, just make sure they are fully locked! An alternative to the ~$4000 5-cyl Moki there's also the ~$3400 7-cyl 260cc Evolution that sounds great (no idea if it's as well designed&built as the Moki). Would be neat to build a motorcycle around one of these [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZxJ1ZdYCKw]Evolution 260 - YouTube[/ame]
Pretty Take your time assembling, I always rush it and make silly mistakes. Speaking of which going flying for the first time this year and need to get all my planes airworthy again. Hope the wind dies down for tomorrow morning.
good luck man , im still getting a bit more time up on the trainers first ....wont be long as i am flying the trainer well ..........
Cheers, just spend a few hours getting two planes ready eek! You probably already stated earlier but what trainer? Pending how tomorrow goes I might pop into the hobby shop and pick up the new parkzone archer. It's not too big which is perfect to keep in the car for odd flights and I think she looks pretty also New Product Archer BNF by ParkZone - FlyingGiants Seems like a nice plane for lazy flying and circuits Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Evolution 7 sounds great, low rpm, big prop, like the full size engines. Much more authentic sound than the Moki 5 cylinder. Looks like Evolution also has a 9 cylinder radial also. Wonder where they are built; the Moki is from Hungary, I think.
mostly done ........ Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Love the drop tanks! Well today's little adventure cost me a sun burn and a new plane (friend broke a spinner so had to visit the hobby shop and yea that says it all pretty much..) I wore my contact today and it was AMAZING being able to see properly! I can't believe I went so long without. BTW, the vampire is such a great jet, still flying it stock and it just scoots along and glides forever bit tricky to land.
