Red Bull are show-boating something with the rear of the car, doing everything they can to hide it. The have people standing at every angle of the rear.

Why put the car on display like this if you're trying so hard to hide something? Why not just show at first testing? I call foul on Red Bull, they're after publicity with this little stunt just like Mercedes were with their twitter fire they started.

The purple colors look amazing. As I've said many times - underestimate Newey at your own risk.....

I think they got it all wrong with the purple. It's like a cross between Tammy Baker and Heidi Fleiss getting ready to hit Sunset Boulevard.

Btw - red bull were not allowing any photos to be taken. Those were the only released shots; although a few Lo res made it out. Newey also said they have a vanity cover but it adds extra weight that he doesn't want....

RB8 already was a substantially good car at the end of 2012, I can't blame them for not radically changing a formula which clearly works very well. RB9 will be competitive and obviously has its usual title shot, but Mclaren and even Ferrari have unveiled two very very very cutting edge machines. Let's see where this goes.....

Yup. Scarbs tweeted this morning that they were threatening to take the cameras away! I'm wondering if Red Bull are show boating or if they really do have something to hide at the back end.

I presume you mean the "rails" on either side of the nose which "hide" the step in side view?

While they may be playing games with how the flow "falls" onto the sidepods I can 99% guarantee that layout is not generating vortexes up at the airbox at any speed. Nothing to be gained apart from a bunch of drag........ [And certainly *nothing* like your picture! ;)]

    Cheers,
    Ian

It's all very fascinating though, I find aerodynamics talk much more interesting than having 6, 8 or 9 cylinders, and with electric motors approaching that's going to be more relevant too.

And when they sort out the quantum computer, even aero will feel outdated. :)

Cold fusion might put all that out of date too..... :)

I actually feel there is far to much emphasis on aeros ATM. I'd like to see F1 leaning back to car racing rather than aero racing.

I think the F138 should be on top of that stack :)

Haha. Well, I have to admit the F138 is a striking car as is the Sauber. Mercedes' sidepod design is definitely my favorite though.

We will see W04s 5 element front wing later in the week per Brawn. W04 had a small fire this morning that was unburned fuel, no damage.

Mclaren stopped due to a fuel pump.

E21 clearly with a Red Bull ramp and tunnel exhaust arrangement.

    Sauber looks sharp.

Ferrari bodywork very hot so the team are putting towels over parts of the sidepods to prevent from burning themselves. F138 looks good though.

I'm already hearing the tires are utterly falling to nothing after 6 laps.

Jerez update... after identifying the cause of the problem, we will not be running again today whilst parts are modified ready for tomorrow
    1:40 PM - 05 Feb 13

The part which requires modification is the wiring loom where the electrical fault originated this morning

    It ignited unburned fuel. Bad.

Whoa... that's a bit of an unfortunate thing to happen during a test.

Did that put the car out of action for the rest of the day?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Red Bull have a new wing on today. 6 elements at the endplate. The design of the outer 6 elements is very Lotus-like rather than Ferrari-like though. Red Bull's elements curve downward prior to the endplate whereas Ferrari's simply meet the endplate, straight. Both will provide very stable front downforce, it's brilliant where they're able to do with CF these days
