As a package the F430 is a keeper, no need for anything faster on track or public roads for me. Hopefully will jump into another one and again in standard form.

False, the cars go around turns VERY well. You ran into a very poor driver, nothing more.

One is a Ferrari, the other is a Nissan, thats what it boils down to. I dont care if the GTR had 1000 bhp, I wouldnt get a thrill seeing one in my garage, wouldnt feel special when I clambered into the interior. It doesnt sound like a Ferrari, wont feel like a Ferrari.

In my opinion life isnt about the numbers, its about the experience, its not about money but how that money creates experience.

When you on a twisting mountain road in a Ferrari, the sound of the engine the feel through the steering wheel, that black horse staring back you, do performance numbers matter....

thats fine...with the exception of the brand whore first line.

You like the subjective over the objective, others disagree. Its great that they make a whole bunch of different cars.

In a straight line from a roll I beat the older model GTR. We went from around a 40 mph roll up to only around 100. Stopped a talked to the owner. He said he had a GT3 also. Cool guy. This was around 3 years ago if I recall...maybe 4 years. It was for sure the 1st gen GTR.

A Stock GTR (R35) will be faster than a stock 430. And even the first years. They are incredibly fast. The Gearbox is incredibly fast. I think even a 2012 would be faster than an Italia on straight lines.

How many times you can really use the full performance potential of these cars anyway. How many people can feel the difference between 4.1 to 60mph and 3.7 to 60?

Thats my point, how many times does one think about the objective while driving, my experience suggests the objective becomes important when sitting at the bar/sitting having coffee.... Numbers tell but part of a story, the story get confused further if you introduce modifications into the equation, the GTR is very moddable and for a fairly low amount of money you can have a monster of a car.

This is what we did...from about 40 to 100 and he was faster by a second it seemed.
Perhaps this guy had a newer gen GTR? Does the HP increase dramatically each year in model?

    Zinger,
Interested in seeing some pics of your M5. I have owned the M5 and the M6, and have started to wonder if the M5 could end up being a good DD. My current DD is a Lexus 250, and I am feeling soooo ready to trade this car in for a more exciting car.

I think it would be quite a close race, even allowing for the four wheel drive advantage from a launch.

Where the GTR will win is if there is a damp tarmac thrown into the equation.

I owned the first GTR in NA and can tell you stock it out handled and was both quicker and faster. But the early cars lacked play and emotion that have been added to the 12/13 model years, besides being even faster and better handling.
The 430 felt very slow in comparison, despite the paper stats. Obv the 430 isn't slow.
Few cars deliver the explosive thrust of the GTR and it spoils your perception and appreciation of other fine cars like the 430.
I found the new M5 far too heavy to be a real drives car.
Picked up an M3 while I shop for Scud or wait for 458s. Good compromise car, still too heavy and low on tq. New M3 should be incredible with 200+lbs cut out and +100tq.
And yes, I cross shop all the above cars to fill my ever evolving car desires.

If you make your 430 UGR it still won't catch that GTR.
It's a big challenge for the V10 gallardos TT by UGR to beat the only V6 Alpha 12 GTRs.

Well I can do some comps here....I have a 2012 GT-R and HAD a 430 Scud with a 458 on the way.....My Nissan is stock and will say that it is faster than the Scud...period....530 Hp with AWD the thing hooks and goes....

Now if you're going to compare driving experience once again there is no comparison, the Ferrari wins hands down no contest....the Nissan is my daily driver but if I'm looking for some excitement in my life I went (and will go) to the Ferrari.....

As far as being faster than the 458 we will wait and see.....the Nissan is a beast and for the most part gets a lot of respect from other drivers....It got just as much attention than the Scud as its following with the video game crowd is epic....A lot of people have no clue what it is and I love it when they ask me and I can say Nissan....the bewilderment is amusing....

For the price, comfort, and performance it is a great car....

Not a fair comparison? They are both sports cars and the 458 is 3x the cost, is that fair? Who cares anyways unless you are tracking or having fun on the highway once every blue moon.

2012 GTR is not faster than a 458 italia in a straight line. MT has 458 faster in 1/4. Trap speed is 3 mph higher for the Italia. 0-60 GTR is faster. Makes sense. GTR AWD. Italia has 40 more hp over the GTR and is lighter. Just can't hook up as quick off the line.

Pretty sure F430 traps at higher speed vs 1st gen GTR. From a dig GTR wins. From a roll it's close. Once GTR is modded...forget it.

On exhaust sound, I have the RPI unit on my X5M (same engine as M5) and it makes for a deeper, base sound but not a whole lot louder. The RPI takes out the resonator and just goes straight pipes with two mufflers. The guy at RPI said that you could take off the mufflers and it would not be much louder. Boost is so high that there is little energy left in the exhaust after it drives the turbines.

The RPI is beautiful stainless, nicely polished on the inside to make for the look of 4 small horns.

The newer GT-R's are sub 3sec cars as mentioned. When I see one on the road, quite common, I always seemed to be in our fam suv or my DB (Daily Beater/not driver). I don't think I would "play" if I was in my Ferrari. I have ran a lil against an R8 5.2 with my FF and that was fun... especially when u see the car drift into the rearview. If the R8 would have pulled away, I'm sure I would have had "oh its the weight of my car" "I had passengers" or what ever else I could justify in my mind.

If the GT-R was per say a $200K+ supercar I don't think people would have the perception they do when they realize it's faster than their F-Car.

Lexus LFA for example. If that were to blow past you, there wouldn't be any "humbling" as it is a $400K+ supercar. But, it's still a Lexus isn't it?

Whatever the price tag, these other cars will never quite stand up to Fcars from a complete aspect. Straight line racing maybe.

Or maybe there is some form of Ego attached to the monetary aspect then. Maybe not pronounced or jackass like in the movie but some extent of ego. Humbling can only occur when there is a pre-existing Ego/false pride.

Not pointing fingers, as I may be the same guy. Just speaking what comes to mind.

Pretty sure you raced the newer one. 1st gen to new one went from 480hp to 530 hp. I had heard 1st gen had more like 500 hp though which seems more correct. 1st gen GTR is 3,800 lbs I believe. F430 is around 3,300 lbs I believe.

Do you recall what gear you were in? I don't exactly remember the mph at the start but I do remember I was revving at around close to 5k rpm when we started. It's the only way I knew I had a chance.

And to the other poster who said GTR feels faster. Cars with more torque give more pull and feel faster. Higher revving cars with less torque don't feel as fast since they don't pull you back as hard but the car pulls longer through the 8,500 rpm redline for F430 and 9K for the Italia.

Eddie, as you know, I recently had a chance to go to breakfast at Maniac Mike's with our Ophthalmic friend. He was in his recently acquired GTR (545 hp) and Ms M2G2 and I in the Scud. Ms M2G2 was on the iPhone5 video and I on the throttle. We did not "dead-stop" drag race. What we were able to ascertain is that from a roll, the Scud is faster. Not a run-away, but certain.**

A stock F430 and the 485 hp GTR should be a good race, but if you picked on a newer 545 hp model, he just spanked you and laughed :)

Next: You must NEVER believe a GTR or Supra owner's claims of being stock. Those guys are rarely stock and their whole world is hunting down and destroying the self-esteem of unsuspecting Ferrari, Lambo and Porsche owners. They can add 100 - 300 hp by throwing less than $1K at their car...our oil changes are more than that!

RULE TO LIVE BY: Any random GTR or Supra owner willing to race you in your Ferari...he already knows he is going to beat you! There is nothing to be gained by racing...if you win, wow!, you beat up a Nissan/Toyota; you loose...crap, you'r Ferrari lost to a Nissan/Toyota and the other guy rubs your face in it! DON'T DO IT! You must be strong!

In my case, it was a real test.** I knew our friend's car to be bone stock like my Scud. That, of course was then, but a month later, I'll bet our friend has his GTR "roided up" and the same results are very unlikely.

**Test was conducted on a closed course.

I said to myself this is my DD, don't mod it but I'm sure that won't last :D. In the other Bimmer forums many have said the Meisteschaft exhaust is really nice on the M5 F10, more aggressive and burbles on overrun. I don't like the little bar that is inside the tips on the Meisterschaft though, not sure why they have those in the tips, I suppose for strength but they look kinda odd. One thing about the RPI on the new M5 is that gains in HP have been impressive, like 20HP which is uncommon for just an exhaust.

Rolling start I bet you get very different results. All wheel drive is tough to beat off the line.
