Humbled by a Nissan GTR....

This "street drag race" is driver-dependent and doesn't prove which car (among the close calls) is the fastest. The Italia driver appeared to be enjoying a nap when the starting bell rang. Timed ET's on a real drag strip by the same or similarly experienced drivers are the proof of the pudding when you are trying to determine which one is in fact the fastest in the 1/4 mile drag contest. 1/10 of a second less reaction time at the start leads to quite a gap at a 130 mph finish.

DocWill would say that you are "justifying", generating a rational and logical set of reasons to unload the F430 and buy "the other" car.

Seriously now, forget about that whole process. You know what you need to do to remedy this situation. The answer awaits you 8 miles to the south. They have two in stock. If those don't float your boat, they have that red GTR (Sorry, couldn't resist the GTR comment.)

My E92 M3 can spank my 360. I've also had my M3 crushed around a track by a 1993 Civic with a JDM motor.

Godzilla is a monster and definitely great value for performance but life is better in a Ferrari.

 

Every time we have a thread like this one, which ultimately leads to a "which is faster" discussion, it always comes back to this!

You just can't argue with this conclusion: "Life is better in a Ferrari". The "Ferris Bueller" quote stated it best so many years ago: "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up".

This is such a ridiculous post, the GTR will easily out corner a 360 spider, it would be no comparison. There is no performance metric the 360 spider will come close to compared to the GTR.

A stock GTR will kill a base 430. And I'm sure still have an advantage on a Scud as well.

Torque is vastly more important than HP when it comes to acceleration. The GTR has 463 ft/lbs. 430s have about 380 IIRC. Plus, the Japanese are known for sandbagging a bit in their power specs.

IMHO, the power wars reached the point of diminished returns some years ago. Even on a track, amateur drivers such as myself can't really get efficient use of all that power. It's harder to be smooth with gobs of power not to mention the expensive beating your brakes take.

+1, I agree with you about the diminished returns (and everything else you said).

Around 400 HP is more than enough for the street. So when you start talking about cars with ~530 HP and twin turbos, things can get out of hand....never mind cars with ~1000HP.

I believe the F430 has 343ft/lbs.

No, the GT-R was not built for drag races, though many have modified them to become great drag cars. She's a pig but goes around corners with the best of them. It's a $100k car so yes there will be shortcomings when comparing it to something costing 2-4 times as much.

For whatever reason the GT-R is the most hated "supercar" on the interweb, well probably on the street too but definitely easier (on the ego) for some to stroke a keyboard than challenge one on the track or street.

Subjective opinions and statements are fine but misstatements of facts under the guise of objectivity really do everyone a disservice. It's a dream come true owning a Scud and the experience is like nothing else, but the GT-R hits so many buttons for me I prefer it over the Scud.

 

This thread got me thinking about getting a GTR so I started looking online. A lot of car for the money but I can't seem to get in to it. It will absolutely destroy my 360, full warranty, all the amenities of a newer car but for whatever reason I cant get into it. Perhaps as DD but I don't get the same level of excitement with it and I could care less about the status.

R35 says a GT-R goes around corners with the best of them. But that is not what I've seen.

At the risk of sounding snotty, they are a Japanese built, American designed front engined family sedan (read brick) with a slight resemblance to an R8, weighing 25% more than the Ferrari's it's being compared to. (No insults to R8 owners intended). Sure they have lots of horsepower, but they will blend in at the mall parking garage with all the other Japanese cars. Yawn.

The market has also spoken. They are not holding their value. You will not find any 10 year old GT-Rs selling for 70% of OEM list either when they get that age.

 

Getting a bit off topic, but I agree. I've come to think that even 400HP is too much for the street and that 300HP cars that do 0-6 closer to 5.5sec are the sweet spot for having fun on the road. Getting to only change gears once (or sometimes not at all) before you hit the speed limit isn't terribly fun!

Makes sense.
First run I was in 4th gear and so I got demolished.
Second run I was in 3rd and he pulled away slowly but we only hit around 100. I do wonder if I would have caught up if we were able to press to 160

 

If that's the case, the driver(s) was either bad or needs to grow a pair. The owner I know and often spend track days with burns up the turns. It takes much more car than my 430 to keep up with him anywhere but I like to think I'm having more fun.
