So in such places one would only survive with a F car if one was a leader of organized crime. That would discourage any ordinary rif raffs from messing with you or your F car.

There goes my plan to ship my car to Brazil. Already eliminated the Sahara, Gobi, and Great Sand Deserts, as well as the Arctic and Antarctic, most of Africa and a good part of the mideast. The world is shrinking right before my eyes. It seems there is more to worry about than someon spilling coffee on a 458. Best

Maintenance cost of $60k a year? How does that work?

Even if you put it in a container and have it serviced in London every year, you will spend much less than $60k. Maintenance is free on new Ferraris.

First, "down there" sounded a bit agressive to me.. It´s not like I live in hell or something... Hope I´m just missunderstading what you said, and if so, I´m sorry.

The number of cars stolen around here have decreased dramatically.. And I have never heard of any exotic cars being stolen, actually, it´s easier to have your honda civic stolen than your Fcar, simply because there is nothing to do around here with a stolen ferrari. If you go through any police station they will already know it is stolen. Also, trying to sell parts is just useless because there is nobody buying them, even on the black market.. Finding a stolen ferrari here would be extremely easy.
Insurance is that expensive because of the risks.. If you crash a car like that here, you will have to wait months for parts, and it would be expensive as hell to fix any scratch..
For example, there is a thread around talking about a $10k damage on Justin´s Ferrari, if it were here, you could be sure it would be no less than $60k... I just crashed my subaru impreza ("regular version"), no huge damages, just the front bumper was damaged, price to fix ? $18k
Almost the price of that car in the US. Thank God I have insurance..

I can easily say one of my dreams is moving to the US.. Not only mine, but my fathers too.. If we ever get the chance to do so, that´s what we´re doing ASAP. We love that country, we travel there at least twice every year :)

Thanks so much for those kind words! You can be sure I´ll never ever stop dreaming.
Actually, living the life I´m living now was already a dream a few years back, when I couldnt even buy a car and now I have two amazing cars... I know the day I have the money to the ferrari is coming!!

Are you sure about that ? $55K is already what people call "high mid class" here, and I have expensive "toys", such as my iphone, some watches, two cars (they are not cheap at all here).. And I have never ever been assaulted, kidnapped, or anything of that matters..
If you go to the favelas, well that´s a different story.. But I live a normal life here, never worried about security... Brazil is not hell as many people think...
I´m not saying we are the safiest country in the world, please, US is a lot safier than here, I´m just saying that it is not a law that you have to walk with security guards or you will be assaulted...

Calm down. Where did you get that from ? I don´t live in a gangster country.
I have a few friends who owns exotics, and they don´t even have security guards. They have a normal life, they go to malls, their kids go to school, etc.. No need for security guards.. Sometimes they even drive to the mall with their Ferrari, Lamborghini or whatever exotic they want to...They are hard working people, not terrorists. They all run there companies, and they don´t need to steal, kill, or anything to be able to buy their cars.

No it´s not, at all. I have iPhones since the 4th generation and it was never stolen. Walking with the iPhone 5 now, and it is still not a problem.
That statement was a bit exaggerated.

That´s where I might be wrong, but I´m always at the F dealer, and they are really nice people, and the sale guy is a car enthusiast, just like me, who dreams of owning one someday. I always ask him about things I read here, and as far as he knows, that 7 year maintenance doesnt exist here in brazil, but he might be wrong, or I might have missunderstood what he said.
But, the price would be that high, because since there is only 1 official dealer here, and there is so few ferraris being sold, they need to make profit somewhere... And the maintenance is the answer.... Btw, when I said "maintenance", I was talking about gas, parking, and all the expenses a car brings to you (except by taxes and insurance).

    ------

Brazil is a country with a lots of problems, we do have assaults, corruption, problems with health cares, problem with schools, etc.. We are very far away from being a big country... But it does not mean we live in a "unliveable" country, where you cant go out your house.

I disagree I was at Copacabana Palace in Rio many people had problems as soon as dusk falls the element comes out phones stolen while taking pictures numerous times.Purses stolen street beggars that are highly aggressive,San Paulo was even worst. You live there that's the difference and being there as a tourist going around both cities with children in tow and wife creates even more issues

I know the economy in Brazil has been getting better, I am sure once people can begin to shake poverty it will be that much safer in Brazil. Or any country for that matter. My uncle loved Brazil...he said it was one of the most amazing places in the world. Definitly have to visit one day, I will look you up Salivan so you can show me around to all the fun local spots!

My point is that you don't get rich by being employed. In order to get rich (without going over to the "dark" side), you need to have a good business sense, be prepared to take risks, make investments, set up your own company etc. Unless you are CEO of a Fortune 500 company or you got some shares in a growing start-up, it is very difficult to get rich counting on others than yourself (i.e. being employed, even at a high level).

    You are completely right!!

And absolutely! Feel free to contact me anytime you want! It will be a pleasure to help :)

I'm really sorry to hear about your bad experience here in Brazil.
I do agree that it is somewhat not safe for tourists here, but still, if you go to the right places there wont be a problem.
And yes, Sao Paulo IS worst, I think things are getting better there, but I'm not quite sure.
Anyway, where I live in Rio, it is a pretty safe place to spend time!

If you want, whenever you are coming to Brazil again, let me know and I'll help you out, and give you tips of places you should go, and of what should you be aware of! =)

Thanks guys for bringing this unpopular thread back to the top to allow the craziness to continue. Many dislike this topic, yet continue to contribute to the craziness.

Frankly, I had no sinister intent and certainly did not intend to cause any trouble. I was just a bit tired of people mentioning how hard work was necessary to achieve this ferrari dream, and that when they came across a young admirer (kid) they would give them a lesson on the morals and ethics of hard work paying off. Closer to reality I wanted people who didn't really have to work hard for their F car to confess up. Of course they will not it appears, and I do know there are many out there in that category, probably more than those that worked hard for it. This is nothing personal, as I know absolutely no one personally on this forum. Also I have no issues with either group (hard workers vs silver spoon).

Besides I don't understand the sensitivity to this topic. Mature, educated and wealthy adults should be capable of discussing any topic without getting offended or feeling uncomfortable.

BTW, there have been some nice contributions in this thread that I truly enjoyed reading and many views I agreed with. Thanks for those.

I don't know how old you are, but the class envy thing is implicit throughout the above and other posts like it (Just by asking the question you tap into caste rationalizations.)

Are those ethics negated if the person giving voice to them either inherited a fortune, managed to earn a fortune on 37hrs/week, or was given a Ferrari?

Scary stuff in Brazil. I been many times and I think I would be too frightened to drive an F car in Sao Paulo or Rio. I remember visiting a client at his house where he was recovering from a bad experience. As he got into his Audi he had a gun stuck in his ear. He handed over his cash, credit cards and car keys and expected to be die. He told me he never expected to live and his car was probably by now in Paraguay. He drives a Toyota now.

I think the Brazil comments are gross over exaggerations especially from US residents.

Last time I checked the highest prison population in the world was in the US. Wealthy people tend to live in guarded communities with armed guards. Ever been to Miami? People live on barricaded islands with medieval moats and patrol craft all around. Every US major city has no go zones. Chicago piles bodybags by the dozens every second weekend. The likely hood of you being robbed in Brazil is no different then almost any major US city.

I have an office in Sao Paulo and travel there every other month. The crime in Rio and Sao Paulo is very different than in US. Rio homicide rate is 85/100,000. New York is 5.6/100,000. One of my partners' wives was shot in the face last month in Sao Paulo in broad daylight in the middle of the business district. Another of my partners was robbed while sitting in traffic at gunpoint by 2 guys on a motorcycle. His wife was kidnapped last year. I could go on and on. When I am there I travel in an old armored minivan. I wear a plastic watch. All luxury cars are armored. I would never drive a Ferrari in Brazil except in the countryside. Crime had been getting better with Brazil's prosperity (36 million people recently entered the middle class) but government has been fighting the gangs recently which is leading to more violence.

There is a reason US has laws and police that enforce them.I travel the world in places like Albania your life is worth very little if you have something someone wants such as a watch or they know you have money ,someone may say I want that watch and pay someone to get it they don't care how kind you are or what good you do,Where you are from they kill you for it ,Its less of a struggle to get what they want the mindset is way different than live and let live in the US .Kidnapping is big in the Balkans and most times no one is released after the money is paid and if they are caught they will kidnap another member of the same family to have themselves released while you are awaiting news from the 1st kidnapping .Watching TV or researching the Internet isn't living in a real world

Yes, we live in enclaves of relative civilization. Ferraris can live in these enclaves, but it is only a veneer. Travel from the California prosperous coastal enclaves 100 miles into the central and southern interior and you will enter a different world. In some areas more than 20% unemployment and rampant criminality is routine.
