I finally got a chance to get the Radical SR8 out for a DE, and although the driving is a bit embarrassing in terms of how sloppy I was, my only defense is I'd been driving a SRF and the corners rush up so quickly I can't seem to find the apexes as well in the SR8. The Raddy will go much quicker, I am sure, and all I need to do is find 30 sec or so to run with Vettel!

This video is supposed to be HD and I can't figure out how to embed it here - looks like I did figure it out, but the preview feature did not appear like this post now appears.

    nice!

also, when was that? I'll see if I can find the corresponding video from my car of you zipping by :D

Very nice video, that complex after turn one looks amazing- really feels like you are going somewhere with the elevation change. I am itching to get on the track - missed the 12/14 event and everything else has been booked or cancelled... Please please PM if you hear of any other events at COTA...

Aww, Keith! Need DATA overlaid! :D

Nice driving. I see a second and a half plus just coming in a little earlier (to traverse the width of the road) and hitting EVERY inside curb. That way, throttle commitment can go up, sooner, and the subsequent benefit realized all the way down the long straights... But you know that... ;)

I'd LOVE to overlay data. The car has a STACK system with integrated video and I can't get the UK to give me all the top secret passwords to get the configuration and download to work right, so I stuck a standalone camera on the rollbar and used a performancebox velcro'd to the pax seat. Have not had time to study the data, but to answer one question I hit about 156 mph per the GPS on the Performancebox.

Not sure I'd ovelay on this lap, as I am not overly proud of it - I need more time in this time warp of a car as I don't have the touch on grip limits yet and do not place it well on track. Frankly it is a testament to the car more than the driver that it put down the time it did and yes, I left large dollops of time on the table.

how many FIA gator curbs can you hit before the toe gets knocked out or something rattles itself loose?

those were the most violent curbs I've ever driven over so for the most part I stayed off of them. I can't imagine what they'd be like in a Radical...or an F1 car

Might be a great way to reach geosynchronous orbit!

Awesome video. I'd love to take a radical for a spin sometime.

That was fun! Gives some appreciation of the Raddy's pace. It is crazy fast. And thanks for being so diligent with your mirrors!

Funny, I thought the curbing was very mild, other than the boulders at the geometric apexes.. Try Road America if you want some violent curbs.

Road America doesn't have curbs, it has rumble strips like you see on the shoulder of the interstate! COTA's curbs were similar to Laguna Seca's...where I did knock the toe out on my car.

the orange "boulders" are there for MotoGP riders to sight apexes when leaned over at 60 degrees....best not to hit those

    155-157 for a well-driven ACR-X...

that was by far the fastest closing rate I saw all weekend, and some of the GT2 guys claimed they were doing 165-170 at the end of the back stretch.

so either they're full of **** or that Radical was doing over 170.

Don't most of the formula and radical cars have a pretty low top end? All about the braking and fast turns. Even F1 cars have a pretty low top end. Is the SR8 motorcycle engine or is that another radical?

SR8 is a V8 but I think it's effectively two motorcycle engines merged together (correct me if I'm wrong)

top end depends on the aero, not sure how much downforce the Raddy has.

The SR8 engine is essentially two HIGHLY MODIFIED Hayabusas mated together. Radical has their own engine shop called Powertech. I can reach about 160 on the back straight at Spring Mountain. Depending on the gearing the car can easily go 170+ without much problem.

One other thing to note is that the SR8 in this video is one of the earlier generation cars (I think it's a 2.6 liter engine). Some of the newer V8s are 3.2 liters and produce in excess of 500hp (versus this V8 which is probably rated closer to 400). I may be wrong but I'm sure the original poster will clarify.

This car is an SR8 with the 2.6 V8 and it is a pair of Hayabusa engines mated to a common crankcase and crankshaft. The 'Busa rods, pistons, valves and I am pretty sure even cams are pretty stock. It dynos a bit under 350 rwhp. I think a stock 'Busa makes near 200 hp, so this is not outrageous. I did not want one of the stroked V8s, as I don't really need the power for a track day car and the extra stress on the driveline can't help longevity. The latest stroked V8 makes 500 hp or so, I think.

As for cars doing 170 or so I am suspicious. Many imported cars are notorious for having optimistic speedos. My Lamborghini always read high and it really pissed me off. I suspect it is so the owners think their cars are faster than they really are.

That said, some of the big power cars like ZR1 and GT2 may be faster before the brake zone, as downforce costs drag and this thing makes downforce! I'll take grip over top speed most of the time.

just for comparison, here's a clip of the Muscle Milk Honda P1 car doing a lap around ~1:58 or so.

    damn. I need a Radical :)

After watching Keiths video, more importantly the back to back videos of him passing you, did you start pricing out Radicals? Tell me I wasn't the only one.
