    It would be extremely expensive to tool up for a production volume of one.
    I looked into it when I wanted to replace my F50's perspex engine cover years ago. I thought Ferraris price was nuts until I looked into commissioning my own.

    I agree. Each louver would have to be individually custom made, so this is out of the question in glass for sure, likely also for lexan or plexi as the labor component is the main cost driver.

    If you want a fun exercise, take the metal louvers off your Miura, don't label them, mix them up and then try to put them back on the car. Fun entertainment for hours will be yours.

    Some louvers I've seen are already stamped in order of position. Can't say who did the stampings, but they appeared to be the same type as the Bertone stamp. For example, car 600 would be stamped "600 1", "600 2", "600 3", etc.

    Not sure why you would think that you can't see the engine through flat glass window. I think the prototype pictures show the engine fantastically.

    In any case, I'm too stubborn to give up that easily. :)

    And here are the "after" pictures of the hardware and the carbs. They came out flawless. All of these were taken by Jeff Stephan, who did the work. The mechanism now works silky smooth. He had to replace 3 or 4 floats which had been damaged apparently as a result of blowing pressurized air into the carbs. Note the overstamp of the L on the carb serial number. That's an indicator that it is original to this very early Miura as they almost certainly took Porsche carbs and re-stamped them with the L for Lamborghini. Later carbs were actual stamped from new with the L.

    Do you know what was used to make the carburator housing look nice.
    I would guess some kind of "alodine" treatment?

    I don't know what all is used to get the finish. There seems to be a lot of "art" to it to get it just right.

    Yes, it is so time consuming and expensive to get that look. Then, after a few hundred miles of driving and the associated heat cycles, that look is gone forever. Sadly, that is why cars restored to such a nice standard often don't get driven and rest in collections or museums.

    I restored my DCOEs like that just not that brown and it's held up just fine. I have had to re-plate the round jet covers though but the body finish is still perfect.

    Jeff has rebuilt my carbs twice in the past 10 years (once for the "color" treatment). Now after 3+ years of service since the second rebuild and color treatment , including several hundred miles and multiple heat cycles, they still look and perform perfect! Jeff does top notch work on Miuras. Although I don't know Alberto so I can't speak for him; I'm sure he would agree.

    What did you use for making the body's look nice? Cleaner, nut shell or plastic blasting, ultrasonic cleaning?

    I know the DCOE's will always look different from the IDL/IDA's..
    They are supposedly not made of the same alloy.

    Mine had corrosion and in order to achieve a uniform look with something like Alodine (which I used) you need to bead blast them. I used glass beads and they were sealed up at any intrusion points so that no beads could get into the carbs themselves. The ultrasonic would be great for the interiors ahead of time. Mine just got the very old fashioned carb cleaner that still works. I don't think you can find now though.

    Time will tell on how long the finish lasts, but I have every expectation that it will last for many years. Jeff does great work and he knows what he's doing. I don't have a "collection" or a museum. The level of finish on the car will have nothing to do with how much it will get driven, and after showing it in Monterey (or such), I intend to drive the hell out of it if I can.

    Jeff has refurbished carbs for me too, and I think you'll find that (unlike some restorers) his work & finished product has benefited with time & practice. Plus, he is a pleasure to deal with, and a serious Miura enthusiast.

    Do you remember what type of Alodine you used? I seem to remember that it exist in different color tones.

    I'm getting ready to redo my Espada carbs as well.
