Would be great to hang out and talk cars. I used to compete in the S2k challenge with SV. Last time I was at AAA Speedway, I managed a 1.49 lap on the roval. This was in fairly warm weather. Hopefully I can run similar times this time around. I usually run in the red group, I am also an instructor for Speed Ventures. Below is my last outing at AAA Speedway. I also don't have a problem switching cars if you are up for it. I have yet to drive a 211. They look like a blast to drive.

Aw yes, Aaron has done well running S2k, Corvette, Miata, Lotus Challenges....
Should be a great battle - I ran the 211 in Nov last year the day it was raining off and on. I think I ran a 1:51 on burnt tires (notice racers excuse - rain and burnt rubber :) )
My prediction is I catch you on corners and you pass me on straights. You will definitely pass me on the bank. I presume your top speed is 160-165 mph. Unfortunately, the Lotus will top out at 140 so I get passed by all the high HP cars. I run in red group as well.
How are your times at Buttonwillow 13 CW?

I was half kidding on trading cars - would hate to put a GTR into the wall. Did you hear about the McLaren that kissed the wall a few months back? In any case, shows what a stand up car enthusiast you are. Definitely would be cool doing passenger in each others cars.
(I'm a Lotus guy at heart, but shhh don't tell the F guys or else we will both get lambasted) ;)

Or they play for the Falcons... etc...

There are probably quite a few Americans that meet this profile and could outrun someone the same height and literally half the weight.

Which reminded me of a metaphor: one might say the GT-R is the 'NFL player' of the car world. Their legs are heavily muscled, and often they can use them to change direction as quickly as someone much, much smaller. This is kinda like having 550hp and AWD. Point, pivot, and run.

Figure skaters are maneuverable too... but the GT-R resembles one in no way.

I didn't buy my 430 because I thought it would be faster than any other car out there. I bought it for the design, the sound of the engine and mostly for the way I feel when I'm driving it. That another car for less money could out-perform it never entered the equation. I don't track my cars, and for the most part, I drive the Ferrari on public roads where I have zero ability to exploit the car's capabilities -- not that I would even have the skill set to push the car to its limits.

I think the GT-R is an awesome car, and even like the way it looks. I test drove it, and thought it was great, but I bought the 430 because it was a different experience, and the experience I preferred over the GT-R. Different strokes for different folks, but I do respect the choices of others. And I think it's great that different people prefer different things. I like walking out of a restaurant and seeing a GT-R parked outside, and I will most definitely walk over to it to take a look, just as I would for a Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, etc.

Gtrs are also underrated. The advertised power is extremely conservative they make 20-30hp more based on dyno readings. Great bang for the buck. If they came with a real transmission I might consider getting one. I dont care dct is faster.

1:51 is pretty fast for 250 hp in wet conditions. I do about 160-165mph going into the bank. My minimum speeds are around 133mph. I'm sure your average speed through the bank is more than mine. I did the 1:49 on larger R888s. I will be going with worn OEM tires on the 23rd (Preemptive racer excuse), so I would be lucky to run something similar.

BW has been a pain in my ass the past 3 times I have gone. One thing or another would prevent me from going Sub 2 mins. The fastest I have done is a 2:00 with a passenger on OEM tires. I have set a personal goal to at least do a 1:58 with the stock GTR. I would imagine your time at BW is much better than mine. How do you fare on 13CW?

Very well stated, John, and also my sentiments exactly. I cannot comment on the feel of a GTR, since I haven't driven one, but my F430 feels just right, even driving at five tenths. I also have a 2008 Z06 that has similar or slightly better performance, but the Ferrari feels much better, at least on the street. I'm into the numbers as much as anybody, but for a street car feel and fun-to-drive are more important and those are where the Ferrari shines.

You missed the point that some leading tacklers are in fact 6'2, 300 lbs, and could outrun 99% of the populace.

It's true that some linemen are designed to stand there as a substitute for a brick wall.

But there are some with 20" necks and 24" around each thigh out there that are 'in shape.'

Yea, BW is more certainly more technical vs AAA Spdwy. I looked back and the last couple times we did BW we ran it backwards (I think 1A config). Before that we ran 13CW plus Star Mazda (little longer than the sweeper) - that event I ran a 2:01.xx.
BW would be a more fair track for us to even things out.

Our first event will be at Big Willow in April - that track is somewhat geared for high HP, but could also be considered in parts as a momentum track as well. If we are doing it with SV you should come out.

I bought my first Ferrari at 21, a 2 year old 246 Dino. Currently I have an F430 and a Scud in my garage, so I'm on board and, admittedly, an addict.

I'm contemplating a GT-R as a DD, but as yet I have no definitive plans. My current DD is a MB E550 with "blind-spot" warning, back-up camera, "distance control"...all of which are nice, but best of all are the seats...air conditioned and heated with cyclo-massage. My wife wants the E550 (actually, what she really wants are the seats...otherwise, she has no real interest in the car). I drove a Cayman S and Carrera the past few years as DD's and want to to make a change. The GT-R is an appealing and logical choice.

Is your garage floor epoxy? I'm in the middle of remodeling my garage including some minor construction. I have yet to make a final selection on flooring. Opinions from others, both good and bad, on their experiences, are welcome.

Yes, that is MY Nissan, with faithful companion, ahead of that EYE-talian pasta eater in behind me !

The other picture is of the Car, in all her 85 horsepower glory, yes sports fans, a 1965 Datsun "Fairlady" 1500, ahead of a V12 Ferrari.

This should put this thread to it's rightful conclusion !!!!

GT-R as a dd is the main reason i would get one if i did. Maybe to mod the heck out of it too.

I beat on a merc c350 dd. Clean, very low key, safe, and could care less for dings etc.

What are your takes on the cayman s? Im waiting on Alfa 4c for possible real dd. cayman s might b a possibility too.

31 when i got first ferrari. An '05 F430 back in 2010. Was so proud and immediately hooked.

Let the wife have it... It'll create a "need" ;) for a replacement dd.

Yes my garage floor is epoxy. Couple coats of black epoxy, not too over board with the paint chip flakes, then a clear coat epoxy to finish. Drying time (car traffic) is probably most annoying part. I love it. Makes the garage floor look real clean n sharp. Kind of like flooring. I really didnt want to do the grey epoxy as it would look to similar to concrete.

The Cayman S is (was) infinitely more fun to drive than either my Carrera or 997 TT. I just like the mid-engine platform over the rear engine Carreras. The Cayman S also had a 6 sp vs. Tips for the Carreras. The Cayman S is "zippy," for the lack of a better term. It's also the kind of car you feel comfortable in taking out to the store when you realize you need some milk or similar errand. I never felt that way with the Turbo. The newest version of the PDK is very nice to drive, so I would say a Cayman S w/PDK would also serve well.

Thanks for the info and opinion on the epoxy treatment for the garage. It's been on my "top 3" list since I started my remodel. I'm about a month away from decision time.

I was looking for a new sporty DD. Included were Cayman, 911, M3, M5, and RS4.

Had many 911's and still love the car, but given that my more recent 911's were the Turbo and GT3, the Carrera really didn't do it for me.

The Cayman is a fun car, but seemed underpowered and wasn't real practical with 2 seats.

    The RS4 pushed a lot.

The M5 was too sedan like and big.

Got the M3 due to price, warranty, great engine/handeling, and very practical.
