Making sure your graphics drivers are up to date is another thing to check out in the future. Just an FYI.

I am in a Computer science class and we were told to download Speccy. It will take a snapshot of your whole system so you have a reference for what you have, and what its doing. i have found this to be a great and powerful tool.

I have been playing the same Skyrim game since It came out. The mods are why i keep playing, The Luxury suite, Evil Lair of the Hydra, Icicle Valley and many of the other Mod expansions really make the game really really fun after you have played through the vanilla storyline. I DID NOT want to be a vampire at all, but I soon realized its part of how the game and story lines play out. Be a vampire, become a werewolf, get cured. Your human again, with all sorts of cool stuff. :)

I am running 8 gigs of ram and have twin Gforce 8800GT 512 cards with Zalman coolers, and the game still crashes to desktop because of a virtual function call error r6025. I have a thread on it here in technology. OS is Windows XP 64 . Going to get Windows 7 and wipe this drive clean. I want to play the game to relax and it pisses me off when it crashes my SSD the game and OS are on. My other drives are platters and are going to get replaced asap.

I am looking for a new game or two. Far Cry 3 looks good from the talk here, and there is some new Bethesda game that i wanted to get as well.

I haven't played many open world games so I may be a bit over enthusiastic. I can say the map is huge. Last night I got on a jet ski and drove it down a winding river and it was fun. After three or four minutes of cruising I came to a waterfall and tried to jump it but got my ski stuck on the rocks. I get off and it lets me mash the X button to push the ski off the rocks to the lower level. I jump down into the water and as I'm swimming to the ski I get attacked by a big crocodile :)

The story line is pretty good. The fighting is hard on the hard setting. I'm probably going into fights under armed as there is so much to do to acquire new weapons and skills and I haven't spent much time on that. My only complaint is when you die you often have to start back at the beginning of the mission which can be frustrating if you have spent a lot of effort getting half way through it only to die and then start over.

I played one of the CO-OP missions with my sister and it took us a couple hours to finish it and it was fun. I think there are a total of 6 CO-OP missions which are different from the single player so you don't feel like you're playing through the same thing twice. I haven't tried multiplayer.

The best part for me is the size of the map and all the details they put in it. There is so much landscape and water to explore. Fresh water or saltwater. Mountains to climb vehicles to drive and hang gliders that you can fly for several minutes depending on how high your takeoff spot is. There is so much interactive wildlife in the map and it really makes the map feel alive.

I picked this up for $39 after xmas and I'm going to get months of play out of it. When I finally finish all the missions I'll still be able to spend hours exploring the map and dealing with whatever I find. :)

Been playing Farcry 3 on xbox . It's a lot of fun , huge maps. I was not too impressed with Multiplayer though, not as much fun as BO2 or MW3 .

My system's back and updated per post #395, have since installed latest nvidia drivers and they've made for a big improvement in Assassin's Creed 3 just recently installed

Thanks - I'll look for it.

Bethesda games - Elder Scrolls IV, Fallout 3, and Skyrim - have all proven to be crash and error message prone for me. As noted in earlier post, Skyrim was the most stable untill I installed the mods off Steam. I'll crank it up again and play without mods - still a great game with vast content and plenty of playing character possibilities, vampire included.

Success!!! I had put Skyrim away awhile ago because of the stuttering issues, but the other day I got a craving for it and spent some time trying to find a solution and I found one that works, finally.

The one game I've been playing for years now is Counter-Strike. I still play the original version not one of the new remakes. It's been such a blast except for that fact that I was a lot better in my teens.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

This is a game that came out 20 years ago this year and was installed on my very first computer. It's a classic point and click Lucasarts adventure game. I never beat it when I was 9 because it was too hard and even now I find it REALLY hard. But thanks to a walkthrough I have up on my iPad I have managed to nearly beat it. I can't imagine playing it without a walkthrough. Damn near impossible!

Purchased for $5 on Steam. Plays beautifully on Win7 in DosBox. I highly recommend it. Lots of atmosphere and frankly...it's just fun!

Skyrim now up and running again on my desktop PC with new Windows 7 install and 24" LED Panasonic TV for monitor. 560 GTX GPU automatically put graphics settings to high and frame rates were a little slow so I notched down antialiasiang and antistropic filtering 50%, also turned off all water reflection effects.

Result was noticeably faster frame rates and much smoother motion with negligible effects on overall visual quality. It's still a little choppy in highest-demand visual environments but the stuttering that plagued it with Windows XP is gone, also no crashes and C++ errors. Next step is to fine tweak settings such a draw distance, etc.

Very nice, I've got mine on Ultra and I'm seeing about ~40 fps which is fine for me. My problem wasn't frame rates, it was some kind of microstutter, but adding a line into one of the .ini files seems to have cured it.

For an eight year old PC with single core processor, mine's doing pretty well gamewise, but not for much longer - I have Assassin's Creed 3 loaded also but it runs only so-so. Big problem is that hardware won't support more than 32 bit OS.

Sicle last post I went back and tweaked Skyrim down some and it's even smoother - think I can adjust back up a little and hit a happy medium.

Ever since I got my Vaio laptop, I've been primarily playing GTA4 again.

It was a pain in the ass to get it to run at first. First, I had to put it in compatibility mode (it has W8 on it) to install it. Then, I kept getting the infamous WS10 fatal error upon launch. After I uninstalled the Windows Live that came with it, re-installed the most recent version, and installed the 1.0.7.0 patch, it finally ran. I sure hope the PC port of GTA5 isn't this bad.

It runs great. I'm able to run it with everything maxed out, but for a smoother experience I keep everything on medium. I'm also running it with mods...mainly cars, but I have four map mods on there as well.

Bought the Skyrim DLC for PC that just came out, really really worth the $20. You get a whole new island to explore, tons of new items, people, quests.

New enemies? I thought the core game needed more.

Sort of, there's different enemies on the island, but not many of the ones of Skyrim return, I've only run into drauger and dwemer enemies that were from Skyrim. Pretty much all of the enemies you face in the open world are new.

Dragonborn? I pre-bought it through Steam but it hasn't come up for download yet.

That's good to know. Knocking off falmers and draughrs has gotten old and dragons are a piece of cake.

Yeah that's it, I don't know I really like it, although all I wanted was some more exploring area.

I checked my Steam account - it apparently automatically downloaded into the game on the 5th. I guess you have to run into the right guy to activate it, same as with the Dawnguard addon.
