If ordered today what is the typical wait time....I was told 3 years if no relationship with the dealer and around 12 months if you have a relationship (previous purchases)

    What was your experience?

My 458 is not a spider but it was one of the first 458's in the USA. They told me 1-2 years. I got one in 6 months. I wanted a red on but I swa a new yellow 458 so I told the dealer I wanted yellow and that very car showed up. A few miles and 30K more dollars.

This is my third Ferrari and I have a relationship with the dealer. In my humble view that is to long to wait. In that time frame you may never get it or the dealer could go away.

I would try another dealer or dealers or buy another car. The Audi R8 V10 in my view is a better car.

    Good luck

As previously said, you may get a car sooner, or it may never materialize at all.

Dealer timeframes are projections based upon past allocations. That said, if a customer with a previous relationship wants a spider, they will "jump" in front of you.

In 36 months, the 458 successor will more than likely be released, if that doesn't bother you, you can wait, or you can pick up a preowned, delivery mileage one for a slight premium in 12-24 months.

Building a relationship with a Ferrari dealer involves buying multiple Ferrari/Maserati vehicles from them and trading them back to the same dealer. Buying an FF and trading it back to them will also increase your chances. If you are ok with preowned, you can go that route for the same price.

I don't see this "game" going away, ever.

    thanks guys.

Great feedback. I have purchased 2 other Ferraris and maybe that will help. Would be nice to get onto a near depreciation proof car (if sold correctly)

You can easily get a spider in 1.5-2 yrs, maybe less.

But really, why not just snag a used one? They will start hitting the market soon and be right around MSRP anyways. As long as you aren't super picky, this would be the best option IMO

    good point.
I have been watching from a distance....when they pop up they are in MSRP + +. 2 on ebay now are $370 and $390.

Assuming I do this I will try to get the car with the least options as possible all the while not killing the resale.

Just ask TheMayor. He's got a good looking nicely specced spider. In a couple of months he'll likely be willing to sell it to you at MSRP with only 1000 miles on it. Of course this only after he has placed his order for a F12.

It will help if you purchased from the same dealer.

We're on the same boat. However, I have never purchased a Ferrarri before. I have been told the same story of 3-year wait since Mar 2012, a dealer even told me 5 years at that time. They were all very interested to sell a used italia or a new ff and buying one (esp. ff) would significantly shorten the wait time (all verbal promises though).

I think the 3-yr wait is bull**** at this point, and it is simply used to make someone buy a used car, which is really what the dealer wants to do. The dealer has many customers for new cars, does not have as many new cars to sell, but has many unsold italias sitting on his floor and many new ff allocations to rid of. So, buying either one is for suckers ....

Now, buying a used spider at sticker, say, 12 months from now. If you are into buying used cars with miles and not your spec at sticker, then this is for you. Myself, I will never pay sticker for a used car no matter which car. What you will be doing is basically financing someone else's depreciation because it will lose value and it will drop while it's in your hands.

I have been led to believe recently that I will have a new spider by summer 2014 the latest. If this turns out not to be the case (and I will know earlier), I will simply pass up on the spider and look for another supercar either new or a used mclaren spider as long as it sports the 20-25% off sticker that the coupe does.

There is a substitution effect for me.

    sound thinking overall.

Any insight into the average out the door price in a 458 Spider. I read that they raised the MSRP on the 2013s by $5-6k. What would one expect to spend on options and such...?

I have specced one pretty decently at about $320 with basic paint color option, but I may choose a special order color if it doesn't increase the wait, which is $28K on top of it.

Others on here have reported $310 - $330.

My dealer said the average is about 340 k. I think that's high but 320 would not surprise me at all. On the bottom, probably 290

If the price of the spider went up, it happened in the last 10 days.
My sticker for my 2013 spider that was delivered January 11 reads as follows:
    Port of entry retail: $257,412.00
Delivery, Process, Prep and handling fee: $3,750.00

    Total: $261,162.00

To that, add your options. You may want to call your dealer to compare "current" price, but this is less than 30 day old info.

Great info....thanks. Going to call the dealer and nail the details down. Again, appreciate the feedback.

Seems like a reasonable out the door price is in the very low $300s...

I think that's possible. Mine was $314 with the racing package. If you do the regular power Daytona's, you can cut 14 grand off right there and still have some reasonable options.

The cheapest way to go is an all black interior. If you want an all black interior, that will cost you the least.

The biggest problem is finding when to stop. Once you get into the ordering process and you're talking 300K prices, it's difficult to say "no!" for a few more grand here and there. :)

To me the "must have" items are the Steering wheel with LED's, shields, painted calipers, leather headliner, and the 20 inch forged wheels. Those are about 15 grand right there.

That saves me a bunch of research time. Perfect info. I had no idea the regular power Daytonas saved that much money...of course those racing seats are stunning :)

If you had to guess..how long will these cars sell for retail + used? Appears like the used 458 Spiders are still fetching $50k over what the previous owner paid new...

No idea. I would guess you can get back MSRP for another year if you have a car now. After that, depends.

As long as the dealers take back the cars at MSRP, then the used price will be higher. A year... that's my guess. Could be 6 months if economic issues come to play.

Californias have held up really well. I think people like convertibles.

Basically, don't count on it. Buy it and enjoy it. One fender bender and you're out money. Do you really want to worry about that every time you take it out for a drive?

As to the racing seats, you can get the seats without the racing package. Costs about 4 grand more than power Daytona. But, to me it makes no sense to have a CF seats and the non-cf interior parts.

Be careful about getting too excited about price. There are multiple permutations of "power Daytonas" when it comes to price. If you get full power and daytona seat and add colored stripes it is MORE than race seat option. Even without colored stripes it is more. You have to go with partial power to actually just break even. I just threw out my price list as I hadn't planned on speccing another car! But if I remember right, daytonas were about $3800. Plain power was @ $3600. That is $7500 and you are now at race seat price (@ $8k). Add colored stripes @$825. Or add full power with inflatable bolsters and mandatory heat and it is @$6450 plus daytona cost.
Having said all that, the one thing NO ONE has commented on (that I recall) in the heated (no pun intended) race seat vs standard (diamond, daytona are trim not different seat) argument is that passenger side race seat is fixed in terms of height. Fore/aft and seat back rake are adjustable. But that is it. Seat is on floor and no adjustment possible. Only driver's seat can have height and seat bottom angle adjusted.(seat out required to adjust) You would have to custom make a shim to get passenger seat off floor. And, the seat is wider than driver's seat. How much that matters is a personal choice. BUT, you need to know true price of both and true plus' and minus' of both seats.
To say "best" at this point brings a smile to my face!
    Best!

I have been seriously looking for a spider. Cheapest from a dealer is a TDF Blue at Scottsdale FM at $360k.

Most are $390-399. then there is your trade-in. Good luck sight unseen.

Talking to Fcar salesmen is amazing. Talk about low key, no pressure. They have it down to an art.

When you are 67 and your kids have been provided for...take $50k over MSRP divide by 3 kids minus estate taxes and its not much for each kid. ~$8k.

458 Spider is looking better and better,

I had bought a 430 Spider used from my dealer. I asked him how long a wait it would be for 458 Spider he told me it would be a year because I was a previous customer. I went to another dealership who I had no relationship and he told me 2 years. Which was what I was told by my friends. So I went back to my original dealer pre-traded my 2008 430 Spider and ordered a 458 Spider. I just got it and it took 12 months as promised. It all depends on the dealer allocations provided by the factory.

My car listed for 309 which according to my dealer was the second cheapest he has sold. I got the racing package and seats etc. How I saved money was I did not get navigation, serius radio, upgraded stereo, IPOD, and only got the rear parking sensors. Otherwise I got all the normal upgrades.

Dealer killer for me for the sport seats. I had no idea the passengers side seat has no adjustment! My petite 5'6" wife would not be pleased with no being able to see over the dash!

Just wait it out. The 458 Coupe/Spyder are both grossly overpriced in the US. Remember the hits people took on F430's and Scuds. Patience rewards. The replacement is due in 2-3 years time. In my opinion the 458 Coupe is a 180-190k car and the Spyder 210k. 400k for a spyder you are basically throwing money away. 400k you can purchase a barely used MP4-12C + a Scuderia. Is the 458 worth both of those combined? Hell no.
