My Spider just went status 20 and I was thinking about maybe heading to the factory to pick it up there before it's shipped. My salesman says no way, that the order is finalized and cannot be done.. Is this something that has to be arranged prior to the order being submitted? Any info is appreciated.

I was thinking of doing the same, my spider should be built for early May. Let me know what you find out.

No, this cannot be done. Well, maybe if you're Eric Clapton or Nick Mason, but regular customers can't.

I pre-arranged in September 2011 to pick up my 458 Italia at the factory in April 2012. And even then they couldn't find a way to fit me in. We tried for several weeks to get a factory delivery slot only to find out the car was on a truck already.

So even with pre-arrangement, and trying very hard, I didn't get my factory delivery. If you don't have it pre-arranged, then it will definitely not work.

BTW - the factory delivery is nothing special. It takes 15 minutes. My principle reason for collecting it there was driving it back to Holland over the Alps.

I hate to give old/bad info. What I was told by my dealer several years ago was the following: European delivery literally cuts dealer out of loop. He loses slot/profit on that car. He basically "sells" it for Ferrari SpA and gets nothing. My dealer will therefore only do US delivery. Unlike Porsche, MB, and BMW who don't count European delivery against agency's allotment, Ferrari actually lets dealers "lose" that car!
    You gotta love Ferrari's methods.

Factory delivery is possible though it needs to be arranged fairly far in advance. Friend of mine took delivery of his 599 GTO at the factory, in fact both he and a friend took delivery of both their GTO's on the same day, unfortunately Ferrari could only get one of the cars 100% finished but they did allow both customers to go and see the others in car which was in the finishing department.

On 12 cylinder cars it is normally pretty straightforward to arrange, on 8 cylinders, it takes a bit of sorting but I picked up my California and Spider. I only confirmed factory delivery on the final invoice, as , alarmingly, you pay extra to save them shipping it, at least to the UK.

I'm also highly interested in doing a factory pickup, primarily for the experience and the ability to drive it through Italy and Europe! It would be the experience of a lifetime for me.

One would think that if the car never goes through the dealership, it shouldn't come out of the dealers allocation, and therefore would just be an extra sale for the dealer (= extra $ without too much work, other than paperwork). But it seems there's more to it than this, or else it would be easier to do.

Regardless - Does anyone know of any dealer who:
    1) has done a factory delivery for a customer?
    2) is willing to do another one?
