Source: Herald Sun STEPHEN George Snowden is a convicted criminal, a former bankrupt and ultimately responsible for the care of more than 300 sick, elderly Victorians living in his nursing homes. The Cambridge Aged Care Group director has a long and colourful history. He pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court in September 2011 to a charge of obtaining financial advantage by deception. A notice of the court order obtained by the Sunday Herald Sun shows that Mr Snowden was convicted and sentenced to 250 hours of community service to be completed over 12 months. That charge came only six months after he helped set up the Cambridge Aged Care Group, which has five homes across Victoria. A video posted on YouTube, watched almost 4000 times, appears to show Mr Snowden walking out of court that day and abusing someone holding a recording device. ...He was also made bankrupt over debts owed to the NAB, but that was discharged in 2007, according to an ASIC search. But Mr Snowden has hit the headlines in the past over other allegations. In 1993, the Herald Sun reported Mr Snowden was co-director of a company that allegedly shortchanged customers to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. At the time he was in charge of Melbourne Homes and Finance That company allegedly bounced cheques and took up to $23,500 from 27 customers who invested in a so-called tax-free property investment. He denied he was a criminal when police investigated the finance scheme's affairs. "I'm not a shady crook, I'm just trying to earn a living and make some money," he said in April that year. The Australian Tax Office had warned investors about the scheme, which was designed to provide tax breaks A bit more detail here too; http://www.news.com.au/top-stories/exclusive-investigation-probe-as-five-aged-care-centres-face-collapse/story-e6frfkp9-1226574522880?from=public_rss Image Unavailable, Please Login

Makes me wonder exactly what you have to do to get locked up in this country. Stephen had better hope Mick Gatto (or similar) doesn't have a relative in one of the 5 homes. They tend not to worry so much about the legal system.
With his background how did he get to be a director of such a place ? Do they do NO checks whatsoever ?
As a general observation, the person that steals 5k, or evades 50k of tax will go to jail, but the company director that runs a company where millions go "walkabout" will simply go bankrupt and if realy unlucky will get prosecuted by ASIC. There are smart crooks who know this and are serial offenders at it, and have destroyed many lives in the process. One can only hope that what comes around, goes around.
ASIC is comically incompetent and Australian shareholders woefully apathetic. The system is obsessed with remuneration - makes up close to half the typical annual report, but minimal focus on the performance of directors, most of whom are serial incompetents. The other thing that irks me is the total absence of intelligent media scrutiny. ASX announcements are routinely exercises in distortion and spin, yet get reported almost word for word in our so-called quality business media.
4 corners is the only quality show on TV, generally following any 4 corners show there is an outcry the next day on all the other media sources quoting the ABC show as if it is their breakthrough. Not bad for a bunch of communists
Lot of red Ferraris out there comrade, some even use to build Daytonas and camouflaged them with blue paint
the red flag comes from the French revolution (in naval terms it means a fight to the death) which is where the communist disease began. 200 years later, France is a worker's paradise where bus drivers retire at 55 and millionaires pay 75% tax. You'd like it there. Their 40% youth unemployment is just a minor issue...
Just checking now to see if I can move to France I don't intend on working though !!! That's for the working class and we all know I have NO class at all
Just a BTW, my boy got is first job working as a mechanic's apprentice so I'm trying to keep the youth unemployment figure down here He loves cars and all the knowledge I've imparted to him re brakes and other insignificant parts of car maintenance have helped him immensely ...... NOT! He has learnt what NOT to do though
When I lived and worked (there's that horrible word again ) in Sydney, there use to be people from the Communist party handing out newspapers as you got off the train at Wynyard ..... does that still happen ?
