So last night I was trying to fix a broken inet connection. Long story short. I accidentally hit the wrong powerswitch on the wall and shut down my computer. I think nothing of it as it has been shut down like that quite a few times when thunder have been getting too close and the powerboard for the entire house shut down. So I go down and watch a movie. When I come back up I turn on the comp. Fans turn on and start running. Also the fan on the graphics card. But no image on the monitor except an error image floating around saying there is no connection. A friend come by today and we try a few things. I am now running with his smaller graphicscard because mine won't work (Nvidia GTS 8800). I have a gamer card that I bought way back for whatever reason. So I have two ports for graphicscard so I can run SLI if I want to. One port seem to be damaged. But my GFC won't run on either. But it works fine in one of his computers. Additionally I seem to have burned my main Internet gate for the comp. Question is now. What would you suggest I should buy...... Motherboard, what kind? RAM, what kind? (I need 8+ as the 6GB I have now are useless) Processor, what kind? Graphicscard, what kind? Would a smaller one than I Have now work? It should all be able to handle big photoshop files aound 200 mb, sometimes more. Or just 40+ 20mb files opened at once. Also some video files as I play those when I am bored. I don't want "stop-motion-videos", they should play safely. So what should I buy? It should not be the most expensive. Just something that is effective for me. Any experts with good ideas?
Your computer boots up to an error image floating around saying there is no internet connection? Sound more like a virus to me, no operating system would do that. Also, what do you mean by "burned my main internet gate"?
I'm guessing he means the monitor is coming up with an error message saying there is no signal because he mentions later on that his video card is broken and most monitors messages float on the screen so they don't burn in. I'm not sure about internet gate, fancy word for modem? Budget needs to be established before we can recommend anything, I know you said not the most expensive, but since a PC is multiple parts once you add it all together it can break budgets The more money you are willing to spend the better the system (unless you want to go down the over-clocking route). Since you are interested in Photoshop over gaming I'd suggest looking at the CORE I7 range of CPU's. Ram is super cheap, you should be able to get 16GB no matter what your budget. Unless you plan on using 3d Apps/gaming I wouldn't worry about video cards a decent budget card will be more than enough. Thanks peeps OK, let me try and make myself clear. I suck at English and some words I just can't find, like the internet thing What I meant was. I Have two plugs for internet connection on the back of the computer. The main plug I have used is now totally dead. So I use the other one. I Have two slots for graphicscards, but only use 1. The main slot is apparently dead. But here is where it gets tricky. I have borrowed a friends GPC (graphicscard). It works fine in BOTH slots. My own GPC does not work in any of them. But my own GPC does work fine on his computers. So I am not sure what to think. Neither is my friend. Anyway budget is between $1700 and $2600. I know it's not much and I realize most of the money will be eaten up by the CPU. Which is why I would like to know if a cheaper graphicscard would be okay? I want to make clear that I am NOT gaming on the computer, and never has, so it does not have to work all these animated games. I am pretty much only using it for editing pictures and playing around in Photoshop. But the RAM I have now is not nearly enough. Another friend suggest a CORE I7 CPU of some kind as well I prefer Intel. As for the monitor. Yep, it show a message that there is no signal, and the little box flot all over the place to avoid burn in. Philips 220CW monitor which I am satisfied with Hope this made more sense
It sounds to me like your motherboard s going or your power supply is not giving enough power to run the card you have. CHeck out pcper they have build sheets for several diffident price ranges. Leaderboard | PC Perspective
I think it is the MB that is screwing up I am currently trying to put together something different withmore memory. So hopefully that will work when it's all done
