Simple question...there is conflicting history on this car. Some say it ran at Le Mans and Nurburgring as Chassis 3765 [LM] and others say only Chassis 3673 [SA] ran at the Nurburgring.

Does anyone have a definitive answer?

    Thanks!

Looking more closely at the historic photos the Nurburgring car is different from the Le Mans car, both the hood bulge and front light configuration is different.

There are differing opinions supported by facts that point For and Against.

This is true in the cheap seats, where I sit- it's also true among the Experts.
At present there seems to be no consensus opinion on your question.

    Best,
    Dave

It seems that this keeps coming up. Please check older posts

3673SA is a street 4 lit SA with a SWB body it was never a GTO. Had a rep GTO body installed once. Car is back at Ferrari being put back together with a SWB body as original. Never raced

3765LM is the car that ran at LeMans and the Nurbergring. Nose was change for the race. This is verified by the Ferrari factory. It is not a mistery anymore

    regards

Thanks, this is helpful. While we are on the subject of the GTO...did they leave the factory with a lap seat belt, did teams install them, etc. I can't seem to find an answer on this. I suspect not based on this:

Seat belts were still rare in the 60's even though Volvo introduced the 3-Points earlier.

Back in the 50's and 60's it was considered to be safer not to wear a seatbelt in race cars because in case of an accident you would get thrown out of the car or you would have no trouble to climb out without loosing the belt first and avoid getting burned to death.

Thankfully the human brain has evolved a little bit in 40-50 years, at least regarding car safety.

Has this work been completed by the factory and can anyone confirm that 3673SA now has 250GT SWB Berlinetta bodywork?

The factory's has the original swb body that was removed from the car. I have seen it last year. I do not know if it has been finished.

FYI, the car on the left (with the GTO coachwork), carried 3673 SA's original motor, while the car on the lower right carries the original SWB body and chassis for 3673 SA.

Glad to see that everything's finally being reunited.

I understood the 3673SA chassis now has a UK fabricated body and claim was made at this exhibition it was the Nürburgring winner while the SWB body originating from 3673SA is constructed on a 250 GTE chassis.

I can understand that. This is the newly made GTO body when just finished. Copyright unknown.

Is this the body that DK Engineering made or oversaw the making of for 3673SA?

I have recently seen Ferrari internal contemporary race documents that confirm that 3765 ran at the Nurburgring.

Nathan: I have had factory documents for years that confirmed that information. It was only people who were trying to "rewrite history" that started the other stories.

This was put to bed years ago by folks truly in the know (Fred Leydorf etc) that 3765 is the Nurburgring car. Here are some photos of it when we were the owners:

Would this 4 litre car be worth more/less than a standard cookie cutter 3 litre GTO?

Would somebody care to explain what these documents contain and how they confirm the Nürburgring car as 3765. It would also be nice to know where serial number 3673 was between April and October 1962.

    Best wishes, Kare

Kare: The factory race records confirm 3765 as the car entered and raced at Nurburgring. Also the Assembly Data Sheets for 3765 show the engine rebuild and rear axle ratio change between Nurburgring and LeMans.

I have recently seen Ferrari internal contemporary race documents that confirm that 3765 ran at the Nurburgring. This is the factory race report for the 1962 N'ring 1000kms. It lists 4 factory cars that were entered, with chassis numbers and technical information for all 4. I think that this, and the seperate documents seen by DWR46, and the input from etceterini.com put this question to bed once and for all.

I'm no expert on vintage Ferraris, but I surmise that a genuine, documented 330 GTO with a race history could fetch > $50,000,000.

In its original 4 litre form under Ferrari Classiche rules, 330 LM 3765LM would only qualify for White Book certification as a Ferrari of Historical Interest as it last left the factory with a 250 P engine and a 5 speed gearbox.

that would be great if it became a reality, as a few other cars would benefit from that lofty price ride

This is very interesting - and in perfect harmony with the fact that the bodies of #120 at the Ring and #7 in Le Mans judging by photos are 100% identical - except for very limited modifications, which were likely performed to comply with rules requiring that the parking lights both front and rear are fully visible in side view.

I find it very unfortunate that we seem to have no idea what 3673 really was in the beginning. For one second I don't think that a serial number would be kept on a desk for 6 months for no reason. I find it very likely that there is a connection between 3673 and 3765 but at this time I have no idea what it might have been.

I must also add that I feel sad every time I see GTO production quoted to have been 39 cars. That is plain wrong. There were 36 cars. Period.
