Andrew, it would appear that his posting is one of regret, but, no sooner had I sent the e-mail, I am happy to confirm that Hawkeye responded in the affirmative and has been the diligent keeper of 53289 ever since. In fact I have tried to buy it back multiple times with no success! So 53289 has a happy long-term home.

I have to screen Joe's calls now, he never calls just to say "hello, how are you and happy Holidays" No. Joe calls to say "I have a buyer." :)

I think you are experiencing what its like to own a 288 GTO these days :)

In the old says friends & acquaintances would ask: "Whats it like to drive?"

Nowadays its only "If you ever think of selling..."

Andrew I should say that Mrs Sackey & I will be in London again late June/early July. And I promise to refrain from making any offers on the GTO!

    Joe,

I'm curious, how many 288 GTO's have been fully restored or even partially restored? It seems the models from around the same time period (308, Boxer) are entering that age where restoration has to be considered.

    OR

Are owners just holding onto originality and not bothering?

    Thoughts?

Well because if the composite materials used, the bodies and interior panels etc have held up very well, and unless you needed a panel replacing, these will last indefinitely. Mechanically, I think most who owned this car always thought they were special, so few have been neglected. In recent years many have been mechanically conditioned. And yes, most owners are into originality, so you hardly ever see a modified GTO for that reason.

    Is that really a question?

There was a tagline to a product a while back that went "you KNOW you want it" ... statement appropriate than a question!
