On my BBi the intake plenums and runners and the intake tubes from the fuel distributors to the intake have flaking-off "silver" paint on them. With the engine out now, I want to fix that. Question: were these parts originally painted or rather was the aluminum bare?
    Thanks in advance
    Ben

    plenum and runners were painted.

mine however are bare and the "ferrarl" and the strips are polished...my buddy from hendrick motorsports insisted on doing it for me. it looks fantastic but not original.

Thanks Peter. No primer under this paint, but I guess that could be the way they did it originally.

In the valve cover thread PHILWOZZA was saying silver wrinkle is now availaible. But I don't know who does it.

no. just silver paint over a fairly pourus casting. the heat in the engine compartment discolors and cracks the paint quickly!

Sorry Pete but they are painted with a wrinkle finish thats quite thick. It also has quite a varying texture to it with ribs and dips in it which is very different from the black wrinkle finish on say a 308 air box or boxer valve covers. The inlet tubes are also wrinkle finished.
