Humbled by a Nissan GTR....

No offense, but I think it is butt-ugly. I would rather have the new Corvette or ZR-1 than the GT-R. I'd rather have a Cayman S than the GT-R. I'd rather have a Countach than the GT-R. etc., etc. Why? Because they are all beautiful and properly styled. The GT-R looks like L.A. street gang. However, if you like it....there ya go.

 

Cayman S vs Alfa 4C. Think thats where i'll be come next DD.

 

I would take just about any other sports car over the GTR to be honest with you.

 

The thread that would not DIE. Probably a testament to the subject matter, actually not sure if anyone remembers what that was. As someone who has been lucky enough to own a lot of the cars mentioned, I appreciate them all for what they are. If you can not give credit to a car for what it does, and the best you can come up with is that "this is ugly", or "you buy this as a status symbol", you are a proably missing at least SOME of the point.

I stated previously that my experience with the GTR was that it was a disconnected feeling - much like my girlfriends augmented breasts - doesn't mean they're not fun to play with!

 

I am just wondering how long would it take for you to wrap that DBS white....it's totally not matching the Bentley and Ferrari.....

 

Eddie, thanks for the tour of your garage on Saturday morning. The epoxy makes a beautiful finish! Also, thanks for the AM-DBS/F430 swap. Your DBS is amazing! Sadly, our trip down the mountain was stifled by a CHP officer pulling in right behind me after we swapped back into our own cars! Speed limit all they way down. PAINFUL! I did slow and then give him a "blast" in the tunnel!

BTW: Nothing liked getting "humbled" by a POS Crown Vic or Charger police cruiser...slug of a car, nasty styling, miserable paint, heavy on the road and yet they seem to win every time! Must be the skill of the driver or his (her) badge

I have noticed (for me,IMHO) the GT-R looks much better in Black and the darker grays...the darker colors tend to hide the nose of the car, which I find to be its weakest styling feature. I test drove a red GT-R (530 hp) this weekend (thanks Cam and CNC). I found it to be a fun and enjoyable car to drive. I didn't drive it hard but was impressed with the ease in which it performed acceleration and handling tasks. We parked it outside of a nearby Starbuck's and downed two Ventis just sitting in the overstuffed leather chairs looking at it for about an hour. I liked it. My wife has not warmed up to the looks yet. Sorry, Cam. No sale at this point. On the positive side, she likes the color of the one Dr. J. bought much better.

Yeah I agree, I like it in black or dark gray for that exact reason... it's by no means beautiful but it is a beast! Would be an awesome daily driver, plus back seats!

 

I hear what you're saying. I just have a problem with ugly. It's the same reason I don't yet choose to own any of the sideways-driven rice rockets; it's the same reason I don't own a Pontiac Aztec, but I have owned a Corvette, a '66 E-Type Roadster, and two Ferraris. I appreciate the beauty of design. A Talbot-Lago, the E-Type, and especially most anything that says Pininfarina, I greatly admire.

That doesn't mean guys with the GT-R and four-banger rice rockets don't deserve to have their fun with them. God bless 'em.

I simply most appreciate cars that integrate function as well as beauty.

 

Almost 40k miles on mine with the only issue being a burned out LED in the dash that was repaired under warranty. You're right, it is a fantastic daily driver. Also great for road trips to Vegas, San Diego and even Monterrey.

 

Really! I agree. Actually, Will, after taking a beat'n by the GT-R, Eddie needs to disguise the F430 during its recovery period...maybe he could wrap it black...yeah, gloss black

Just drove 3 hrs today, about 1 hr of that @ 150 mph. Can't go much faster because of the winter tyres.

Its hard to find long stretches at high speed but very easy to close gaps to cars at much higher speeds on summer tyres.

With three lanes and little traffic (can be found rven around Munich) I guess 170 mph is a relaxed travelling speed. Roads are good here and people drive on the right plus they use their blinkers and rear mirrors before entering the left lane.

 

You are definitely braver than me......or something else.

 

Last time I was on the Autobahn I was 14 (1982). From my young perspective, my Dad was flying @ 95mph in his new Mercedes 380SEL. At one point we were passed by an elderly woman in a BMW. She flashed the BMW's high beams and had her left indicator on as she closed the gap. Dad immediately got out of her way... hilarious!

Thanks! She runs hard and puts the pwr down. Have Toyo R888s, they get traction unless they are cold. Spinning all fours at 80 is wild......scary wild.

 

Speaking of eye.. I spy in my little eye.. how big the car is. Subjective. Objectively, it's competitive.

It's as big as an S7 4 door! (C+C last weekend)

Yes, I imagine 888's are one of the few tyres that would cope with that! Those are a great tyre, but they sure don't last. My wife trashed both rears in 350 miles in her Tvr....

For me the best is the A-81 towards Zurich. Its just fantastic!! Or the 92 towards Passau! Many test BMW there! Im in Neuhausen a.d.F / Stuttgart! Speed is life!
