I know . . . I think a lot of the frustration here is that people are ready to see the car and to have some news--any news--from Maranello. This tease has gone on way too long.

It's like the old joke . . . a young girl says to a 40 year old guy . . . oh baby, we are going to go out to a romantic restaurant and have a gourmet meal of 7 courses paired with exquisite wine. And then we will go to the jazz club and listen to some cool jazz. Then we will hit the town for a few hours of dancing. After that, we will come back here where you will slowly undress me, and savor each minute as you prepare me for pleasure. You will give me a full body massage and will bring me to the edge of rapture and then back off and start again. We will make love until the sun comes up.

She looks over at the guy and he has fallen asleep with a beer in his hand and the basketball game on TV.

P1 is a HUGE teconological step forward from the F1.

It's a HUGE technoligical step forward from the 12c.

Just how huge will be measured by it's lap times vs their past cars, verifable fact. It will not be opinion. There are no rose colored glasses on stopwatches.

    Cheers

@Drive550PFB You didn't got my point. Some folks after my text posted very nice statements, but they are not quoted in your post. I am sure all members appreciate Jim`s inputs when they are on-topic & constructive. He is businessman and I dont get how he cant put "vehicle" & "company" on two separate sides. You can dislike (for example) Vacheron Constantin as company, but you cant deny that they manage to make masterpiece over & over again.

Its clear that his choice will be McLaren, since his story with Ferrari is unfortunately over. (Ferrari product+Pininfarina idea+Jim support=Great result). But on end of the day that is not the reason for him to try to convince people that McLaren will be better for past 300 pages, since that will be his choice.

I don't disagree with either of those statements.

But, F1 was just that much better for it's time than the P1 is for it's time. Maybe I was expecting too much but when you see the F1's 3 person layout and center driving position, the attention to detail down to the bespoke engine and the titanium wheel changing kit, the use of CF which for the time was totally outrageous, the gold covered inner cover, the unheard of top speed for the day... the P1 just doesn't measure up.

The F1 was the peak. The P1 -- it's another hypercar.

The F1 is the modern version of 30's Bugatti's. The P1 is a really fast car. Huge difference.

At least you guys can actually dream about having a F70. Ferrari here told me they won't bring any to the country and cannot even accept my purchase intention let alone an order.

Having been there and done that I think that the weight and complexity of these systems make them very hard to enjoy in the real world as it is today. As batteries get better this will change but even Tesla/Fisker/Volt/Leaf/Boeing are finding this to be harder than they thought it would be.

While I'll very much enjoy driving P 4/5 C with it's KERS for many, many years I keep thinking about how much I enjoy smaller, lighter, simplier Sports Cars such a Dino Competizione and am looking at under 1800 lbs, TT and about 600 HP.

And yet sadly they only sold what? < 70 road cars?

Perhaps with the P1 McLaren is aiming for more sales and aren't worried too much about topping the F1's iconic status?

If there was one thing that I wish they would have carried over from the F1 however, it would be the center driving position. I really hope someone else incorporates that into a future design.

I check this thread multiple times everyday just to see if something new was leaked about the f70. Now I'm not going to at least until March 5th or I see allot of talk about something new about the car. All the flack from these McLaren haters and there childish comments are just embarrassing.
I don't get it! People buy Porsches for straight driving pleasure. They like the lack of AIDS, steering feel, and that engine noise. They also care very much how fast it goes around a track. Most people who by hyper cars know that they probably will never reach the top speed or take it to the knife edge. They want it though just to have it because they are huge fans. Fans of Porsche and of racing in general. These are Who McLaren are building these cars for. Racing fans who wish they didnt have to pretend they had a car so quick it could literally beat a race car. For those who take there Porsches out every weekend just to race. For those Who, when they were small, spread rumors around school that this Ferrari could beat that car or that jag can whip that Ferrari's ass twice! Now that kid is old, rich and has the chance to own possibly the fastest car on a race track ever made!! Don't know about have of you all who speak nonsense about what you have not yet seen but, I freaking wish I was that kid. I would get which ever is closest to a racecar but still get from track to track in reasonable comfort. Maybe take my son with me. Anyhow...

True... which is why I say Mac's claim that they will make 500 P1's is total and complete baloney, just like their claims of selling 4000 12c's in a year.

    Never happen.

Just because I'm a nice guy, I will let you use my home address so you can order one from Boardwalk Ferrari here in Plano which is about 20 minutes from my house. I'll even personally deliver it to your home in Brazil.

No need to thank me, just pay for gas and we'll call it even. :D

I guess my point is that the F1 was something totally out there and significant in the world of auto making.

I just don't see the P1 more interesting or significant than any other hypercar built today.

Dam I've become my own worse enemy about talking about the Mac in the F70 thread. My apologies.

I would think about it if Brazil didn't have stupid laws that forbid us to bring to the country used cars or cars bought abroad :(

If that's what McLaren are hoping for then they need a serious wake up call because there's not a hope in hell that they will sell 500 P1's.

    Not a hope.

Well let's wait and see what Gordon Murray thinks of the P1 and how it compares to his F1 because his opinion is clearly important to you. I've got a feeling you two won't agree on this occasion.

Bob, agree on your points about the F1 and P1. We keep hearing in the media that the P1 is the successor/replacement for the F1. Doesn't feel like that at all, to me anyway.

Is it just certain cars or all cars? What is their reason for doing that? They can collect taxes on imported cars just the same as cars purchased at a dealership.

This Is What The Ferrari F150 Hypercar Could Look Like FERRARI F150
Every time we have seen the Ferrari F150, it has either been a photoshop or in camo that makes it look a lot like a whale shark. Ferrari has been showing the car to well heeled possible buyers over the last few weeks. Here's a drawing of what someone who saw the car says it looks like.

The drawing was relayed to artist Leo Costa, who put these illustrations together. If accurate, we'll see a very sculpted front end, the now required Ferrari LED lights, a bunch of air intakes, a slightly Jim Glickenhaus P4/5-esque rear, and every car will be beige with red pinstripes on the outline of the body.

This is consistent with wverything we think we know and has cues of other current Ferraris. I am still having trouble visualizing that rear fender rise.
