Ferrari has done a great job so far to prevent people from taking pictures of the F70 preview in Maranello. Normally I would say someone would have made one by now...

Nuclear secrets are easier to come by than the look of a new Ferrari. :)

It's a very trick air activated valve system. On the road F70/P1/918 will all run our of KERS charge as road braking won't, unlke track braking be enough to recharge their systems and they all will have to rely on their Petrol motors to recharge their KERS.

I posted a long time ago that I suspect the F150 will have F1-derived pneumatic valve springs, for which they recently received a patent for a streetable version.

The benefits would be lower weight (no steel springs), higher revs and better efficiency since the valve pressure can be regulated to lower pressures at lower revs.

The interesting step Koeningsegg has taken from there is to have the valves shunt the engine to a catch tank under braking and act as a huge air pump to compress air which is stored in a CF tank and used for boost when desired. A lot lighter than electrical KERS. Their 4.7 liter engine is making huge HP with that system over 1200. They claim 0-62 MPH in 2.5 seconds with a VMAX of 273!

I hope the F150 has the system you spoke of as it would rev a lot better with that system than with camshafts and valve springs as you point out..

    Pneumatic valves would be sick!!!
On the other hand, engineers at Maranello really hate the Multiair FPT system as it is a dog at higher RPMs. I am certain that if a pneupatic system exists, it is based on the Formula 1 system and not the Mair one...

    Exciting times indeed!!!

No, nothing to do with Multiair, which BTW is technically hydraulically actuated. The patent is for a system like F1, but with some considerations for road use.

Very interesting system by the sounds of it, though from experience systems with pneumatic accumulators, as this sounds to be, are very tricky - you quickly run in to a scenario of diminishing returns vs complexity and size. The tank has to be big enough to provide useful power and the engine as a pump is limited to how much pressure it can generate so volume needs to be pretty big.

BTW, the air spring patent I mentioned still maintains a camshaft - like in F1 design.

    Your math is off.

You did not take into account posts criticizing other people's posts. That has to be about 75% of the thread.

What is extraordinary is the never-ending negative affirmations (notably from "Angry Jim") at how bad the F150 is compared to cars which in most cases neither he nor his merry band of followers know anything about!!!

I would suggest that a new thread (the F150 thread?) be started, where we can ENJOY the anticipation of what is to come from Ferrari and not have to listen to the absurdities that are posted....

This reflects the combination of high interest and low available information surrounding the F70. Many (most) posts are therefore speculations and prejudices. It will be that way until we get to see the real car.

Still, I check the thread once in awhile to see if someone has new information or an interesting rendering.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Ferrari guy who just bought the only Veyron in the US with a red interrior in Ft Lauderdale on Friday.

I just left there talking with 2 sources who would only smile and tell me just wait until Geneva you'll be shocked and pleased with the F70.

If you are in this thread, obviously you have seen the F70, can you drop any hints? Sir? or madam?

It's just kind of unfortunate. I see a new post in this thread and think something about the F70 has come out and I see another debate about how the P1 has/will have/should have more downforce, even though no one really knows much about the F70 at all.

I am so bored with this tread and totally agree.

the reason I started The F70 ONLY thread was so that it would be restricted to the F70 surprisingly. however, when it correctly got joined up with the Maranello thread, I am afraid we are back to where we were. Roll on Geneva and then we can hopefully markedly reduce the hypothetical rhetoric.

BTW, what happened to those camless (or piezoelectric or whatever they called them) engines that Renault and others tried a few years ago?

Looked promising but haven´t heard any news lately.

Is this car going to be available for anyone to purchase? Or is it like the Enzo where Ferrari invites select previous buyers?
