It's not a production car - it's the Paris concept car with the wrapper finally removed from the windshield. It's not even the wild - it's the driveway in front of the lobby at the Grand Habtoor Hotel in Dubai where they held their presentation last night. >8^) ER
I'm starting to feel pity for McLaren. They've made so many presentations around the globe in a desperate attempt to sell more P1's. At the same time , Ferrari hasn't bothered to lift a finger and have already sold all the F70's. That says it all imo : FERRARI F70 > ugly mclaren p1
I guess having people come to private viewings held all around the world doesn't count as lifting a finger.
Monaco luxury group sold at the moment only 4 p1 but they have 15 customer ready to buy the f150 (but they have not 15 CAR to sell)... I saw the P1 in Paris but i don't like it, i don't want to say it's ugly, it's only not for me.
The truth never hurts, unless you've been living in an imaginary world of your own, which is not the case with me. Your comment above didn't upset me at all, nor should it upset anyone else, but I'm sure that at this point in time, everyone knows where Ferrari stand as a sports car manufacturer and where McLaren do. McLaren are doing a pretty solid job so far and they will continue to do so in the future.
Yes - Except that the mesh will change and we'll be able to see all the mechanical bits from the inside.
My coment wasn't meant to upset you or anyone else. I was trying to make a point : McLaren build great cars, however they have failed to understand what a supercar is all about. In their opinion, it's all about performance. The truth however is very different. Supercars are/should be defined by 3 things : 1) looks / WOW factor 2) performance (top speed, acceleration, handling / lap times) 3) driving experience ( the feeling that you are controlling the car ) Ferrari is the greatest supercar manufacturer in the world because they combine all 3 aspects better than anyone else. This is why people apreciate the 458 Italia more than they do the MP4. If absolute performance is all you want, than you should buy a Formula 1 car or a car that was especially built for track use, not the F70 nor the P1 . However we are talking about supercars that were meant for street use. The F70 has already won the war with the P1 because it looks and sounds better. The Mclaren P1 might lap the Ring in 6 minutes, but if it doesn't look and feel great, that means nothing. Here's a simple example so you can understand my point : I remember when I was a kid and I saw a red F50 passing by, it was love at first sight. I didn't knew nothing about Ferrari back then or about the car's performance, I just fell in love with it because of the way it looked. A couple of years later, I got to drive one. Even though it only lasted a few minutes, I never felt happier in my life : the feel of the steering , brakes, that amazing V12 sound. I guess it's what some people call "the soul of the car" . This is what makes the F70 more desirable than the P1 : it's soul. This trumps lap times any day in my book.
The mesh has a lot to do with performance. Many cars have too much inlet and not enough outlet which can actually cause air to back up and create huge drag and cooling problems. This was an issue on The Enzo as we found out when we put ours into the wind tunnel.
In my humble opinion, one of the greatest supercars of all time is this. The guys in Woking clearly don't understand cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login
This was an issue with the C6 Corvette as well. A lot of lift was reduced by putting in a vented hood for track/race cars as well as venting in the rear bumper. Interesting to see that the C7 will come from the factory with a vented hood. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I knew Bruce. He drove the Mk-IV I now own with another guy I knew named Mark. Both of them knew a bit about cars. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0wwk4EDYsw]Bruce McLaren video: McLaren 50 - Courage - YouTube[/ame]
I just find the whole McLaren design of the P1 to be too flamboyant and think it may not age well. All the keyboard racers can keep harking on about its performance but in the end that is only a portion of the reason people buy these ultra expensive cars. Appearance and driver experience also count for a lot. Thats why Mercedes McLaren SLR's can be bought for under 200k while the Porsche Carrera GT is at about 300-350k and going up. These cars were about the same price when released.
Art McLaren set out to build the fastest, around a track, road legal car in the World. Based on P1 being 6 seconds under GT3's on the Barcelona F1 Track I think they've may have done exactly that. Those that want to own such a car will buy P1's. Those than want more classically beautiful cars will buy F70's. The tide will rise and the sun will set.
Yes me thinks the 918 is going to be a hard sell at that number they are asking and supposedly producing
