/... the 2nd pic is from a Jarama GTS
That design from the Aston could be quite a challenge with those six carbs in a driving rain. You have to make the water separate from the air and not end up in the engine.
The hood is horrendous. Just terrible. I would leave the cut-out open, exposing the top end and not get caught in the rain.
well, if you remember I post this pic in the CC section. It has been developped by Dutch guys for a QV engine... it's a smaller air box than the standard one and it is air feeded like for the Daytona racing Gr IV. It prevents rain/water to go to the Webers... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I went for a spin in Mad Max. Here are some pictures I took. Could the engine not be lowered?, and maybe the manifold changed to the early sidedraught type? Is the engine dry sumped, and if not could it not be converted to such a system so it could be lowered in the engine bay? I guess this is an expensive solution ... Pete
I think you'd have to ask DetroitDetomaso or Jack about that. But I think it gives Diablos fits, at least in a straight line. Jack did say it handled well too.
Thanks for your pics. Pics 4 & 5 ruin my idea to convert the "dome" or big air intake to a smaller one like on the Aston Martin pics. Also, from the details I collected from James, it seems impossible to reduce the engine height in the engine bay. So I give up !
Oh come on, it makes for one hell of a hot rod ... But a sleeper it is not! A lot has been done to that car to make it work. Perhaps a plexiglass bubble over the carbs? OH and BTW, I wouldn't worry about the rain. The car has no windshield wipers. I guess they wouldn't clear that nose anyway? How is this car even road legal?
We're a bit more relaxed on regulations here but that's changing on a daily basis. So maybe if you figure out a new solution for the hood you can tackle the wipers issue as well? I try to not use my wipers as frankly, they suck. I use Rainex which is great if you can go fast enough. But I've also been caught out in two enormous downpours where it was dangerous and not just for my Espada. Everyone on the NJ turnpike just pulled over and stopped. The Espada fogs up very fast and since my AC wasn't working it was bad. But I realize that non working wipers are an immediate fail in a decent inspection. Was there another reason it wouldn't be legal there?
Bob the only problem i have is that anyone should ever drive these in the rain LOL. Kinda like breakdancing with Grandma .... sure its possible but wshy bother ? Gary Espada 8394

Hi All, Spreading the existence of the Espada will be a highlight at this years Whittier area classic car show. This Saturday 9 AM to 4 PM. There will be Mike Trivichs 1969 series 1, Laust Pedersons 1972 series 2, and Bob Hubers 1974 series 3. Well see which version the general public thinks is the best of the 3 series. This car show is basically muscle cars / hot rods but we will show them some class and introduce them to the fourth dimension in automotive excellence. Should be a wide variety of cars (over 300 registrations ...sold out), good food, raffles and live entertainment. Its fun for the whole family. Oh, also its FREE for nonparticipants. Whittier Area Classic Car Show Also, The Nostalgic Dragsters will start their engines at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the Batmobile will be on display along with several other specialized vehicles Bob Huber
