Like someone said before do not underestimate the 918. Porsche is second to none in engineering and racing success

As Enzo Ferrari said: "the customer is NOT always right".

Yes. Then again he would never have thought of anything other than a V12 himself! ;)

the 'video game' complaint about gtr might have held water when it was introduced 5 yrs ago but not any longer. all sports cars need the gtr tech to keep up and that includes ferrari, lambo, audi. porsche has dual clutch trans, elect suspension, torque vectoring, awd, even g meter dash displays. plus they add elect sway bars and now elect steering. at least gtr is still hydraulic steer. all modern sports cars are 'like a video game' now but only gtr gets criticized for it

He kind of had to. All the work made for the defunct 288 project was easily capitalised by the F40. If he had to start from a blank sheet of paper I doubt that the F40 would be a V8. Then again, the turbo era in F1 was a marketing boon for the F40.

I am less criticizing the GTR than I am saying the Euro cars are moving in that direction

On paper at least, the 918 is nowhere close to the F150 and the P1. It is more than 100 HP weaker and weighs some 400 kg more!

This is not accurate. Enzo was overjoyed by the car, and in his own words could not have been more impressed. Coincidentally cars were often fitted with smaller engines at Enzos behest, the 206 Dino is a famous example of this, in fact Enzo loved the ingenuity of the 750 Monza's design, being a smaller engine which was easier to cool, 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder designs respectively. While it's true Enzo loved the V12, he was not nearly as married to that design as some people believe, if anything he was more committed to drum brakes than the V12.
Back on topic, it will be interesting to see how this 'duel' plays out, certain people from Ferrari have spoken to people at Mclaren and when they spoke with me they said "The P1 is going to be a different type of car than ours". I think these cars, while setting out to achieve similar goals, are not after the same things, this is not going to the same type of black and white comparison as the 12c VS 458.

Around a race track a P1 will be a lot faster.

This has to be proven first. I do not think that the Ferrari people would be so eager to admit that their car is the slower one, especially since performance is their obsession (wanting to win every comparisson test etc). There must be something more to their words.

Nobody gives a rat's arse about the P1 or the fact that it will be a few seconds faster around a track ( that is if it will be faster)
The F70 will be more beautiful, it will sound a million times better, thus the driving experience will be superior. ===> F70 > P1 End of story !!!

    Can you afford one?

Quite a few people who can afford one have posted that it does matter to them. They are the market for this car, not you.

You also speak to driving experience, have you driven any Ferrari or any McLaren, or are you making points based on broad opinion without experiencing either yourself?

The F70 will only be better for 500 individuals on this planet.
The remaining 7 billion people would not know any better because they are NOT allowed to buy one.
So it does matter how good the P1 is because ANYONE who can afford can buy it.

The P1 is a Nike shoe, the f70'a Tod's and the 918 is a special forces boot.
