I took that shot of the cars coming out of Casino at Monaco in 1979. Macca could be right, I thought it was Jones, but it could be Reutemann. I should have looked closer before I posted.

Reutemann before the start of the Argentine GP. The crowd would cheer "Lole" (his nickname) over and over again whenever he came into sight.

Just a litle aside...the nickname "Lole" came from "lechones"....wich means piglets...i believe it was his father who had a farm with pigs....Reutman wasn´t to proud of thet nickname....

Here's another photo of Reutemann at the Argentine GP. I believe it's Jacques Villeneuve standing in front of him with his head turned. I had to meet with Carlos several times in Buenos Aires for contract stuff in the off-season, part of which involved the marketing of the "Lole" name, and I never got the impression that he wasn't proud of that name.

Apparently that nickname was not a problem. I believe that Carlos got and possibly still is in politics.

Do you mean Gilles Villeneuve? That looks like him.

Carlos is a politician - a senator in Argentina.

Yes, of course I meant Gilles. I had Jacques Lafitte on my mind.

Since this is, after all, Ferrarichat, I would be remiss if I didn't post a photo of the 1979 race winner, Jody Scheckter's Ferrari, to accompany the prior Monaco photos. And since Ron in the initial post that started this great thread suggested we throw in interesting tidbits I'll try this: Probably many of you are not aware that after the race the royal family throws a ball. In 1979 it was held at the Monaco Sporting Club, and hosted by Princess Grace and Prince Rainier. They danced along with everyone else (I thought of tapping him on the shoulder and cutting in, but then thought better of it). Jose Feliciano provided the dinner entertainment. After dinner the roof opened up, fireworks were set off, and Jody's winning Ferrari was slowly lowered through the open roof onto the center of the stage. Pretty awesome sight. Back in those days the bottom of the car wasn't such a big secret!

Thanks. Actually, after I posted it I thought it might have been either 1979 or 1981 due to the angle. I didn't think 1980. I have hundreds of loose photos and none are sorted together by year. When the cars are alone in the shot, without another reference, like where on the track it was taken or what other cars are in the shot, or who was driving, sometimes it's hard to tell. Since I assume that you are correct, then it could be that the Lafitte car was 1980 as well. By the way, I think the Ligier was the best looking F1 car ever. The other Monaco shots are definitely from 1979, as is this...Hans Stuck...he only drove that year.

Sometimes it´s difficult to be sure , the T5 is very similar to the T4....but it has a sort of finn behind the driver´s seat (and the easyest way is of course the nº1 on the car). Also, Monaco was the only place where Ferrari used the rear wing in that position, moved over the center of the car, they did it both in 79 and 80.
I Aghree the Ligier was a very beautiful car, noy only beautiful but fas as well, it wa sprobably the best car in 1980, unfortunatly not very reliable.

Another correction before Pedro pulls out his magnifying glass. If I remember correctly, the driver of the #28 Williams in my Post #1045 was Clay Regazzoni who finished second behind Jody Scheckter, and not Carlos Reutemann, who drove for Lotus that year along with Mario Andretti.

Sorry, that looks like Reutemann to me. BTW Hans Stuck drove several seasons for different teams.

I think you're wrong. Reggazoni drove the #28 Wiliams at Monaco in 1979. I believe he was replaced by Reutemann later in the year.

But I agree...the helmet is puzzling. That's what threw me off in the first place. And when I did some research I couldn't find any indication of Reutemann driving the #28 car 1n 1979 (or any other year for that matter). Can you shed any light on this?

Reuteman drove for Martini Lotus for all of 1979 and then left and drove for Williams in 1980-1982 (he quit after the 2nd race in1982). Regazzoni was with Williams for all of 1979 and came 2nd at Monaco chasing down Scheckter.

Yep. The photo isn't from 1979, it's from 1980 and the car is an 07B.

    Lole behind the wheel...;)
