Compared to the rest of the civilized world, we're still living in the Wild, Wild, West.

I hear you can be shot for having an outlook like that :)

Simon's right, we don't walk around in fear without a gun strapped to our side, ever since the 9/11 episode more of your "rights" have been removed without the slightest murmur (Patriot Act) and yet there is all this hullabaloo about restricting assault rifles to lunatics

With all the guns in the U.S., do any of you Americans go about your day to day business with the fear that someone might shoot you? I'm just wondering, because in Canada, and especially Toronto, we do have gun violence, mostly black against black youth in gangs, but I never fear I personally will be shot.

Neither do we walk around in fear. We don't walk around with guns strapped to our sides. Where I live, it's illegal to do so. I do not fear being shot because I do not venture into the areas where gangs are killing each other. After suicides, guns are most often used by gang bangers to kill each other...and they use handguns, not ARs.

We have had rights restricted by the Patriot Act and many of us are murmuring. Some are even shouting. Maybe some of us think that we have had enough of our rights restricted already and preventing me from having a rifle in my home is going too far.

But who said anything against restricting assault rifles to lunatics? I don't think that anyone is against that. What we are against is taking the toys away from everyone because .00000000001% of the population can't play nicely. Only a nation that has given up on itself would do something so desperate.

This morning I lucked out and was able to buy several cases of ammo.

On the way home I stopped at the gas station and this drop dead gorgeous blonde was filling up her car at the next pump. She glanced over and looked at the ammo in the back of my car and said in a very sexy voice,

"I'm a big believer in the barter system, big boy. Would you be interested in a trade of sex for ammo?"

I thought it over for a few seconds and responded.....

"Well, just what kind of ammo have you got?

Ending the drug war and for the Hollywood types to stop glorifying violence would be an excellent start imo......Oh and federal welfare programs need to stop.....

    "The Drug War" ?

Who are you kidding you goose; still believe in Santa & the Easter Bunny?

Annual global Heroin turnover is estimated by the UN @ $4-500 Billion.

Very nice little earner for the CIA; I am sure they are in a big rush to shut that down after the decades of R & D developing the market.

As we are so fond of academic publications here's a little missive that spells it all out for you.

    Take your time.

FWIW - Your 400-500 bill number is for the entire drug trade, not just heroin.

And not sure thats really an "academic publication" but then again not even much from academics could be considered academic these days lol...

But the premise of that article is basically that drugs are bad and the CIA is helping push them. I agree drugs are bad but I dont have problems with really anyone pushing them if they so choose.

And IMO who cares if the CIA is involved in the trade if it saves us tax payers some cash lol. Im all for legalization and if the CIA wants to partake in the proliferation of that business by all means they should have at it. That said I dont think they are involved in that stuff on a scale like you suggest. And even if they were well really never be able to find out......

But big gubment agencies like the CIA simply are not that efficient with anything that they do so logic would suggest itd be pretty hard to keep a program of any significant size going for decades...

Also when I say end the drug trade I mean at the local and state police level mainly. Local PD needs to lighten up on chasing drug pushers and prison sentences need to be seriously reduced as well as mandatory sentencing rules changed up.

Way too many people in prison these days.....

    Best,
    Ryan AKA "The Goose"
