    Hello, guys!!

It's me again, the crazy Paraguayan!

After many events, Project 37313 (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/359739-chassis-37313-resurrection-308-gtbi.html) is finally getting a jump-start!

As I said on the project's thread, I intend to keep the costs of the project as low as possible, and part of it involves making a lot of the details myself. Even though I'm sure I can make some parts to look like the real thing, I'd rather skip some of the guess-work by having some "real" parameters on which to base myself on.

In that spirit, I've been collecting many parts, most of which have some kind of damage (repairable or not); some where bought from eBay, some where actually donated by forum members, to whom I thank from the bottom of my heart!.

So, if any of you wish to contribute to my noble cause, and have an old damaged part stored somewhere in your garage that you were considering throwing away... or is just taking space that would be useful to other means and purposes, please think of me!! Every rusty bit counts for me and will be truly appreciated.

I wish you all an excellent weekend!! :)

Why don't you list the parts you need...

Yeah, you know what? List the parts... I'm willing to bet that people have stuff laying around. I know that even I have some stuff in the garage, and I've only had the car for two years.

I think it was a broad request because Daniel need everything. Take a peek at his restoration thread. He will get there, just a matter of time and a little help from his friends.

Exactly! I'll put the most relevant parts on a list asap, but in general, it is a broad request.

Many parts will probably be made from scratch... for example, I'm already working on a CAD blueprint to make the brake and clutch pedals, inspired by the beautiful work done at MAT on the group-4 rally cars. It will use 2 master brake pumps and one clutch pump on a totally new case. Fuel tank will be in the front, and will be scratch made as well.

However, there are many parts that make the 308 what is; and I want to pursue that. I mean, I don't want it to wear some "funky" body kit or stuff like that. I want it to look the way it was meant to. I've seen some track 308s that are just... questionable, in my opinion. For example; I saw one the other day that had the pop-up headlight and grill removed altogether and a huge round headlight was placed where the front grill used to be. And that was just taste-less, IMO.

One part that I really want to have as soon as possible are those front fender grilles, the ones that go behind the pop-up headlights. I don't care if they're distorted, broken or impossible to repair. I'd just use them to take some key measures that would guide me in the right direction when reproducing them out of aluminum stock.

    -fender grilles
    -front grille
    -front hood hinges and latches
    -rear hood hinges and latches
-any miscelaneous bodyparts from the front (i.e.broken chin spoiler, wheel cover, hood etc)
    -engine lid
    -rear valance
-any badges (I don't have most of them)
-any toggle switch from the interior
-any warning light from the dash
-any parts of the center console
-speedometer/tach... or parts from them that would help me replicate them
    -instruments pod
    -upholstery/leather swatches
    -outside door handles
    -headlight pods
    -any damaged outside light lens
-damaged bumpers (I intend to replicate those in fiberglass to save weight)
-any suspension parts or old disc brakes (I'll get aftermarket brakes, but these will aid in the mock-up stage
    -any trim pieces

These are just a few of them... however, if any of you have some old, rusty part thrown somewhere that want to get rid of, and it is not on this list, please, ask me... I might just need it! ;-)
Also, remember, these parts don't need to be in good shape... they don't even need to be functional or repairable.

    Thanks a lot, guys!!

Yep! However, I do have a forwarder in Florida that'll get the parts for me. That 328 is beautiful... but it's not what this project is about. I'd hate to mess with a car like that... that is a real candidate for a restoration; my car however, is being saved from the crusher in order to be reborn as a (beautiful) modified car meant for the track courses. Not to mention that getting it through Paraguayan customs would be nerve wrecking!

WOW! That is awesome, BigTex!! Will be awaiting anxiously!! :-D

BTW; what happened to your car?? Were you in an accident recently? You had a beautiful light blue GTB with boxer paint scheme, right? I remember it because it was the first time I saw that color/combo on a 308.

    Hey Daniel,

I could give you some of my drawings, and can work on making some more. What sort of machinery are you going to use to make the parts. My stuff would be in MS Visio (2D), but can save them in .dwg format. Used a water cutter for most of mine.

Did you ever hear anything from that outfit in the Netherlands(?). The ones that where striping street cars down and rebuilding them as full on race cars.

-fender grilles - if no one comes up with any, I will draw these up
-front grille - I have a .dwg drawing for an Euro bumper married to a US valance

-any badges - Superformance.co.uk is your best bet for these

-any toggle switch from the interior - Get the knobs from Superformance, and the switches from The Toolbox Shop
0-364-11, On-off single pole toggle switch, plastic flat lever, 5A

-any warning light from the dash - Toolbox Shop, these worked fine for me (LED)
0-607-35, 12V-24V LED warning light, red

-instruments pod - You could probably mock this up out of aluminum

-upholstery/leather swatches - There are a few places that have complete kits, but they do get pricey. In my hunting, Lakewell seems to have the most complete kit for the price.
    Full carpet set Ferrari 308 GTB(i)/GTS(i) '75-'85 - Lakewell.com

-any damaged outside light lens - Some of these marker lights are Fiat

Toolbox Shop also has a great selection of blade connectors

    Hello, Jonny!!

Well, that's a ton of information you just posted! Very useful indeed, thank you! Will take a look to those vendors you just mentioned ;-) I have actually already purchased some stuff from Superformance and Eurospares, good quality items. Other very interesting stores are Ferrparts and T. Rutlands, I already bought a bunch of used stuff from them.

I've never heard of "The Toolbox Shop", I'll look into it, since it sounds promising :) I actually already have an instrument pod "face", bought it from FerrParts ;-) What I'd need is a damaged tach or speedometer in order to get dimensions to reproduce these units. I intend to buy aftermarket gauges (such as AutoMeter) and modify them to look similar to the original units. I already have the Oil Pressure gauge, that I bought from an eBay auction, so that would be my sample for the small gauges. I understand that the tachometer has a tendency to "fry" itself, so I hope someone has replaced it along the way and has the old one lying around.

It's really hard to find damaged parts being sold on eBay... most parts are in very good shape, and their price is way too high for my purposes.

Regarding the grilles; I was planing on reproducing them with basic metalforming tools, out of aluminum. I was thinking about measuring an original fender grill, or part of it, in order to determine the best gauge aluminum stock to get for the project, and the basic dimensions of the grill. However, if you do have drawings, that would be indeed very helpful! I may not need a sample after all.

I did contact MAT in Finland regarding the body parts; they do sell them separately, no need to buy the entire body "package". However, those are really pricey. I'm sure their quality is excellent, you can tell it by just looking at the finished results, but for the price they ask for the repro parts, I could actually buy used original Ferrari parts. So I'm leaving them as a last resort.

I'm really interested in that .dwg drawing you mentioned about a front bumper mated to a US valance, how accurate is it? That would be an excellent starting point to get the front end of my car square! I have most measures of the frame, but not so many taken from actually body parts; specially from the front end.

Ran across The Toolbox Shop in searching for the blade connectors, and got a switch to see how it compared. It looks exactly like the original. And they are the same switch for the Jag XK.

One though on your instrument cluster. I have found a guy here locally that does water cutting. You could always get an aftermarket speedo and tach that looks close to the original, and just cut out a new cluster faceplate to match your gauges. That's how I made the grill. I just drew out the ribs and slats. Had them water cut. Then a buddy with a milling machine cut the interlocking slots and sanded the edges.

    Hello, guys!

Well, the list has indeed changed, thanks to many recent additions, however, I'm still searching for:

-fender grilles (I have the RH one, thanks to James B.)
-front grille (Johnny sent me a terrific CAD drawing that I intend to use, however, if any original damaged one pops up, I'd gladly take it ;-))
-front hood hinges and latches (I have the front LH hinge; no latches yet)
    -rear hood hinges and latches
-any miscelaneous bodyparts from the front (I have a broken LH portion of the chin spoiler, thanks to James B., the front LH Fender, thanks to Claude L., and the front Hood, thanks to Cavallinomotors)
-engine lid (even if it is a damaged fiberglass reproduction, it'll be really appreciated!)
    -rear valance
-any badges (I now have most of them, still missing the "Disegno di Pininfarina" on the side and the cavallino on the front grille)
-any toggle switch from the interior
-any warning light from the dash
-any parts of the center console
-speedometer/tach... or parts from them that would help me replicate them
    -instruments pod
    -upholstery/leather swatches
    -outside door handles
    -headlight pods
    -any damaged outside light lens
-damaged bumpers (I intend to replicate those in fiberglass to save weight)
-any suspension parts or old disc brakes (I'll get aftermarket brakes, but these will aid in the mock-up stage
    -any trim pieces

    Thank you all for reading!

Daniel the bumpers you should really make them out of fiberglass, the're heavy and way too big. But if you ever need, mine are here for you if you have enough patience to wait for me to ship LOL.
