I was thinking the same thing....especially of the F150 with the V12 is going to weigh in a similar number.

The Enzo doesn't have 328 pounds that are unaccounted for between an empty fuel tank figure of 3,083 lbs and the 2,755 lbs that 1,250 kgs equates to. That's just SILLY!

We weighed our Enzo in the Wind tunnel and found that Ferrari's weight number was BS. Our number was about the one Bill got when he weighed his.

 

Well, dry means really dry. No fuel, no engine and gearbox oil, no coolants, no hydraulic fluids.

All we can do really now is compare factory claims*. Or when the cars come out, put in the same amount of fuel and then compare the kerb weights.

*The dry factory claim for the MP412C was not that accurate either compared to its curb.

 

The dry weight claimed for the 12C was 1,336 kgs or 2,945 lbs.

The 12C has a 19.0 gal fuel tank which equals 119.32 lbs @ 6.28 lbs per gallon.

That puts us up to 3064.32 lbs not counting other fluids.

Curb weight for the 12C (in its lightest configuration) is listed at 1,434 kgs or 3,155 lbs for a difference of...

90.68 lbs

I am nor sure I follow you. Is that curb weight of 3,155 lbs claimed or actually tested? Cause on R&T I see the claimed curb weight at 3,270 lbs and as tested at 3,435 lbs. McLaren P1 - The Final Numbers, Images and Pricing

 

I agree. I want to be as involved as possible in driving my car, not doing the bare minimum.

 

I'm not positive how Road & Track do their numbers 'As tested weight' has in the past been driver inclusive. Curb weight also fluctuates based on the number and type of options fitted. The 3,155 figure I noted was listed as the lightest configuration available from McLaren on the 12C and won't be representative of most cars produced. The point was that there was not a large and unexplainable delta between the car's dry weight and its curb weight as you claimed.

EDIT: Sport Auto's Supertest with the 12C which does put the car on scales for independent verification produced a figure of 1,451 kgs, or 3,199 lbs as the Curb Weight.

Good grief! An Enzo weighs 3,265 lbs when full of fuel? A friend of mine put his 2009 Corvette Z06 on the scales and it weighed 3,099 lbs with a 1/4 tank of gas. That's crazy.

You have to keep in mind that the Enzo holds 110 litres of fuel.

 

Okay so that's an extra 70 pounds. Z06 is still lighter but I will give you the difference and call it even. You're telling me that for what the Enzo cost they couldn't make the car lighter than a $70,000 Chevy?

 

It's not that simple. A Lotus Elise is much lighter and cheaper for example, simply because it's smaller and less compicated. An Enzo is some 30 cm longer and 10 cm wider than a Corvette to begin with.

 

This means the F70 will be lighter....hehe

 

Point being Mac seems pretty bang on with claimed weights so we should expect p1 to be what they say. Only the germans seem more credible imo.

So the car will probably hit its top speed from a standstill in under 30 seconds.

Most sports cars need 75 - 90 seconds to hit their top speed from a standstill.

Think about that. The car also is boasting something like 600kg of downforce, which means peak lateral G loads will be well in excess of 2G (possibly 2.5G), which is 0-5 - 0.6g more that the highest end sports cars.

So it can get up to 125mph in 7 seconds. It will have the highest possible cornering speeds of any road car, due to the grip afforded by the aerodynamics. Even if it scrubs speed in corners, you can quickly recover it on account of its acceleration and the hybrid boost, to get back to high speeds as fast as possible.

Basically, this is a momentum car of the highest caliber.

This will be the first sub-1m10s car that can legitimately be on the Top Gear power lap board. The question is... how far under 1m 10s can it get? I'm thinking 1m06s is definitely possible. This thing is race car quick."

Ferrari appears to have a more powerful engine.. meaning when the batteries dry up, and the cars are racing toe to toe, only recharge comes from braking, equating the duration of the backup power.. so in reality, when the kers is gone, the ferrari is left with 800+ hp and McLaren with only 727 hp.. Even with full battery packs the Ferrari will have more HP ..

I'm willing to bet Ferrari will be a quicker accelerator if they use the same street spec tires...

You want to bet on which one will be faster there?

 

P1 engine is turbocharged which means it should have more peak torque and more torque over the entire rev range. When you're accelerating, torque (especially area under the curve) is what you want.

Plus being a turbo engine, more power can be had by upping the boost. Not that easy on a N/A engine.

 

I am still of the opinion that the F150 will be the more accelerative of the two and also quicker round a smooth circuit like Monza or Spa.
