Or shall I say 4th brake light?

Does anybody know a manufacturer/seller of aftermarket F12 style LED 3rd brake light?
I like how it looks and functions, and I want to install it to my F430.

It does not look like its difficult to fabricate, even the OEM F12 ones just look like an add on.

It might look good when installed on the screen central portion of the rear diffuser of F430.

...anybody? Am I the only one on this?

Seen them on YouTube on some of the import tuner cars ie: 370Z ext., looked pretty cool at night blinking as they sped by. Is it legal?

For me, it doesn't have to flash or blink, as long as it lights up during braking, I'm good.

This would look great if you could fit it behind the rear triangle grill located under the license plate.

I tried to remove my third brake light so I could put a flasher on it. I couldn't get the dang thing out. I removed the screws but the light was wendged in there and I could get it out. Am I doing something wrong? Anyone know how to remove the third brake light???

I ordered one from amazon, basically the same units from the previously linked eBay listing.

JLC Add-On Universal Fit Brilliant Red 12-LED F1 Style Diffuser Brake Light Taillight (Clear Lens) : $20 (free shipping , no tax). The other ones will have to come from hong kong, china, or taiwan, so I chose a domestic vendor.

I will do a DIY install on it in March 2013. I would like to get a "spare" rear diffuser screen. Any ideas? I see Ricambi has them for $216, but for an "experiment" that is a bit much. I suppose I can just cut a screen like I have done before many times using automotive stainless mesh painted black.

You can wire these to Blink, Light up as a driving light + blink on Brake, or just light up on brake (if I understand the crude instructions). So I will likely just wire it to be a driving light, and blink OFF on braking. We shall see.

Thank you very much Dan for taking the time to post this for me! You, and Ricambi, are a class act!

I got the screws out....I just couldn't get the light out. I couldn't seem to get it wedged out. It is such a tight fit. Anyone have advice how to get it out once the screws are loose????

Trent....a DIY install would be great!

Please explain where and how you are going to mount it.....in the triangle thingy under the license plate....diffuser????

What is the purpose of the diffuser? Looks or does it serve a purpose?

Personally, I think it would look really kewl with the diffuser lit up...especially with a flasher in it.

Please tell me what you are planning on doing????

The DIY will go something like this...

Buy Triangle F1 light from Amazon for $20

Buying diamond automotive screen from Lowes.com or eBay, then painting black.

Cutting hole for triangle light in mesh.

    Installing mesh in diffuser vent.

    Wire F1 Triangle Light as:
    ONE OF THESE:
    A. Just a regular brake light
    B. A driving light, and when braking, have it flash
    C. Just a driving light

Vent will still be venting around the edges of the Triangle Light.

If it can be integrated like that, it will look even better than the one on F12.

The light on F12 looks like an after-thought. My door bell looks like that.

What if ya just put it behind the current screen? It would illuminate the entire tunnel behind the screen????' Still looking for pointers to successfully remove the third brake light???

The problem with putting it behind the screen is that it would look like it was behind the screen. The screen on the 430 is fairly heavy on screen and light on holes. It might be an easier install, but would not be very bright and not look as good.

Because of the recessed bezel on the led triangle, minimal tunnel illumination would occur, likely so minimal it would not be visible to the naked eye.

But I had planned on, and will still take an image of this configuration just in case it looks "good enough".

Here is the mock-up of the F1 light behind the diamond screen.

When I first started reading this I thought "oh no, not someone else fast and furious-ing their Ferrari" I read on and was intrigued, seeing your awesome PS skills and how it would look, its tasteful, and really suits the car. I REALLY want to see the pics of this done on the car. Impressive skills, show me more.
Oh and cut into the screen too.

'Da Wolf, I'm glad you're on board on this.

I am not a fan of 'fast & furiousy" looks as well.

Excited to see Trent's project outcome.

Woudl it look better if you used the larger mesh pattern screen? (for example: The type of rear mesh where the Ferrari horse insignia is?)

Well yes, as I am sure you assumed. But if I am replacing the mesh, why not just cut the hole for the triangle light, and if I am cutting the hole for the triangle light, it really does not matter how big the holes are apart from the strength of the material.

If I can easily source several screens with several hole sizes I will. I will likely go with the strongest screen because even with a bracket the screen still will need to be reasonably strong.

My light was shipped USPS :( so it wont be here for another week (est 3/8/13) and I am moving to my new digs that weekend. So this DIY might be pushed out quite a bit. Maybe I can source another unit that I can get here early next week.

I ordered another light from a different vendor. ETA unknown so far. I had to avoid China, Taiwan, and HK because of the Chinese new year. Everything is shut down until Mar 14th or so I think.

If you can find something in stock, domestic USA with express shipping, I will grab it. I was sure that Summit would have it, but no-joy.

QUESTION: I was thinking of putting a wireless ON/OFF slash Dimmer on the brake light so I could defeat it and adjust brightness from the cockpit, what do you think?
