Well here I go, I have had my car for about 2 years and it has run perfectly with one small slowdown glitch that the reset seemed to have solved. The last Major was done in 2007 and has about 7k on it since the last major. I figured it was about time for the major, so I researched and found a local shop with a stellar reputation and brought my car to him yesterday. While in he is also going to install my bypass pipes that I had bought a few months ago. He will also touch up some of the scrape marks on the bottom panels. He advised me that unless there are some hidden surprises I am looking at about 6500 to 9000. The car has performed perfectly so I hope I am not trying to "fix" something that was not broken.

I went by the shop today and the car was on the lift with the panels removed and I could not believe how clean everything was, the underside of the car looked like it just come off the showroom floor. I know I never drove it in the rain but obviously niether did anyone else, pleasant surprise.

" I could not believe how clean everything was, the underside of the car looked like it just come off the showroom floor. " DO NOT let that fool you. You are doing the right thing. Mine is in for major also as we speak. Time is just as bad as miles. So, better be safe than sorry. Look for my thread I will be starting in a few days on old vs. new major parts comparison. Should be interesting. And if you have pics of your old belts to post please do. We love to see them. Thanks! We/I are alo going to talk about driving comparison post major....

Must be the season! Have had the 348 a couple of years now and last major was in 2007. I figure I've pushed my luck far enough with 5 1/2 years. I've looked at the belt and it seems fine but we all know looks can be deceptive! Going to have FPR's installed as well since nothing sexier than shutting down and then hearing the starter turn over and over and over..... The dreaded hot start issue.

Do not forget that these cars are over a decade old. Yu might want to consider replacing all the water and vacuum hoses, along with the rubber gas lines at the tank.

I will take some photos as I am able. I will try to take some good photos of the belts and pulleys. Should be interesting since the mileage is low since the last major but it has been 6 years.

Good point, Many of the hoses were replaced with silicon during the last major and I have already discussed replacing any remaining ones with silicon. It is my undrstanding these are pretty much permanent replacements.
