Will Angelina Jolie (when she was healthy and curvy, rather than an anorexic stick) turn up too? All the best, Andrew.
These were my exact statements several weeks ago after a buddy of mine who works in the City had analyzed McLarens financial documents. Automobile manufacturing is not an easy business to be in.
There's an article / interview with Ron in the FT (subscriber area) on February 4 which could be construed as evidence too
Ferrari design lately has been ABYSMAL except for the 458 Italia. Hopefully this thing doesnt look like an ugly pig. As for the Mclaren, it looks like I expected it to look, taught and purposeful, but not pretty. But seriously, you cannot go wrong with either of these cars. I just wish Ferrari would quit with the pretentious "you are worthy of buying our car". That is so much crap. Rich people who cant drive will end up wrapping one of Ferraris priveleged F150's around a tree soon after its debut. It always happens. In any case I feel like the real passion and engineering comes from Pagani. It feels less like a marketing gimmick and more like a genuine dream car. Of course as scathing as I am being here, I do still like Ferraris throughout history and still dream to own a 355 someday (although that will likely never happen). Also, I thought James and his P4/5 were loved by Ferrari? When did this falling out occur? I haven't heard of any of this. As high profile as his custom Ferraris are I never would have expected that.
You can pick up a 355 for the price of a new SUV these days, if that's really your dream, do it (I did). I don't think they'll be this cheap in 10 years - though I don't think they'll take off, either. I like all of the current car's styling from Ferrari, though I could do with a little less Cheshire cat grin on the F12/FF, but I think the 458 is the weakest of their current offerings styling wise (and it looks very good particularly in spider form with the flying buttresses). I saw an FF in a gunmetal metallic and a Cali in metallic white and both were absolutely stunning, making the 458 in obligatory red/tan look pedestrian next to them. I think all of them are better looking than the previous generation cars, though I felt that the last generation was a step down, or at least a side step, from the 355/550/456/F50 generation. Given the current high level (imo) of Ferrari styling, I have high hopes for the F150 as even though the Enzo was an awesome car, I did not and still do not consider it a good looking or 'pretty' car.
I think those rear pieces will slide out and up, creating the gap for air to flow under and increasing the size of the wing at the same time (if that makes sense) while also allowing an adjustable angle.
I havent been smitten by Ferrari designs in years. Wasnt a fan of the 360 modena and especially not the 430. The GT cars or the big front engined V12s dont tickle my fancy either. Especially not as you mentioned the cheshire cat grin. Ugh. I understand that they are trying to emulate the nostalgic eggcrates of yesteryear but the execution is all wrong. I have seen the new FF and F12 and....just no. Something about them just looks forced. Maybe its me being old fashioned because I loved the 456 and 550 to death. Especially the aforementioned 355. Those were GORGEOUS. I know tech has changed and that necessitates todays shapes, but those hard edges IMO do not work well with Ferrari. It looks amazing on recent Lamborghinis because they were always about edginess and sharp styling, but Ferraris need to be more organic instead of these angry grinning demons they have turned out to be. As for the enzo, honestly I have never seen a real one, but I have had diecast models of them and I like the F1 inspired carbon fiber shell inside the bodywork design that the F150 is also likely to use based on spy photos. Its a cool idea and Im pretty sure the Mclaren isl ike that as well as many other recent supercars. But there is just the passion of styling that seems to have left Ferrari in favor of something more taught and calculated. Thats fine for performance, but I really do miss when they would just engineer an amazing car and cloak it in the slinkiest sexiest body they could dream up. Thats what Ferrari design means to me.
The falling out is in several Fan Girl's minds. For 40 years Ferrari and I have always told each other exactly what we think. I have a lot of friends at Ferrari including many in their racing and design departments. Luca and I emailed each other pretty recently. All is good. None of the above has ANY conection to how I feel about the F70/P1/918. As I do with Luca I always state exactly what I feel. You needen't worry. The F70 isn't an " ugly pig" but it's not the second coming either.
I am sorry to say this but the 550 must be the most boring Ferrari design in recent memory. Ferrari has to take aero into consideration also. Sent from my Neo V using Tapatalk.
I'm in that group as well. Side view looks like a 550/575 and that hallow panel on the front fender looks terrible.
Totally agree and so did Sergio and Andrea and that's why they made Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina. Both we're not fans of the state of Ferrari design when I worked with them.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That said, even if I appreciate classical designs (and I have an E Type), I much prefer modern cars. Retro is not my cup of tea either. Sent from my Neo V using Tapatalk.
Oooh you have an 8C as well? Now thats a looker! I like that spirited little 4C thing they are about to unveil too. Its like the Artega but with much better styling. I love what Pagani does. they are one of the few companies that really goes out there with styling anymore. Another company I always liked was Spyker. It will be interesting seeing what new creation they have just come up with at Geneva. then theres that weird Sbarro GT. Cannot wait for Geneva! Also yes I am quite intrigued still by the F150 and look forward to seeing what it actually looks like, although I think I have a pretty solid idea based on the shell and the renderings and spyshots. You can kind of predict it. Especially with that machined template at the preview party that was shown. But I will end up liking it Im sure because ultimately it is still a monster powered mid engined beast exotic and I like those damned things for the sheer audacity they are. Similar to why I love your P4/5 project (although if Im honest I would change the wheel design) But it is guys like you who truly have a unique vision and keep me getting excited about these things I will never own and rarely come in contact with. They are so fun to look at and inspire me to design my own ideas, although sadly I have slacked off of that hobby in recent years. I think I used to upload some sketches here years ago.
To each their own. I personally prefer the F12, most definitely as an overall package. The 8C is a beautiful car, but does not blow my dress up.
I'm with you: just add a Dino 246 GTS. 275 GTB/4 is my top Ferrari ever. AR 8C is a masterpiece of car design too: F12 is not, even if it's a gorgeous car. I'm curious to see this new F150: i hope it will be the first extremely good looking Ferrari i waited to see since many years, as i'm not satisfied of actual Ferrari design course. ciao
