I drive mine every day in the rain sleet and snow, into NYC and on country roads. I like it a lot. I've also used a 275 GTB as a daily 65K miles, a 308 GTBi 85K, and a Testa Rossa 155K.
I like the purity of the 8C design. Its simple but classic and very elegant. The front and side of the F12 are dealbreakers to me. Just...I dont know if gimmicky is the word or maybe bad execution. Especially the clumsy way the bodylines meet up coming off the rear fender and joining the crease coming from the strangely designed side vents/air management bridge. It just doesnt work for me at all. Also the way the lower front just sort of stabs its way into the design and doesnt flow. It looksl ike an afterthought. Like they wanted to design it with a high nose but decided to fill in the details last minute. It doesnt look absolutely comfortable with itself.
beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course ... but in pure shape & looks alone, i'd choose a 599 or F12 over a daytona coupe (hardtop) any day of the week (and already have, more than once!) just me, i suppose ...
I think part of it is that strange new trend where the front fender panel rises abruptly and curves forwards. Look at the new Aston Martins for example. http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02251/Vanquish-6_2251585b.jpg Its understandable because of the pedestrian regulations in europe forcing higher nose designs, but it definitely puts the designs at a disadvantage. You can see this F12 picture shows exactly what Im talking about. http://www.autoweek.com/galleryimage/CW/20120730/CARREVIEWS/730009999/PH/1/4/ferrari-f12-front.jpg
one of the most beautiful Ferraris I saw in my lifetime (back in the '80s-90's when I used to work for them), was a '66 275 GTB short-nose, alloy car (cannot recall whether it was 3C or 6C) which was all original, red/black with 330,000 kms on the clock... paint had wonderful patina/chips and the car ran strong -- I believe it was a 1 or 2 owner car -- and was daily driven... ah, those were the days... sorry to go off-topic...back to the F150 discussion already in progress...
So Mr. Glickenhaus, some of your very recent posts imply to me that you have already seen the final shape of the F70/F150. I might have slipped an occasional post around here (highly improbable, though!) but I don't recall you writing that you've finally seen it or how did you manage. As far as I know or can recall you haven't been invited to any of the previews, so might I ask how did you get to see the car? Just curious. Thank you.
I find even this Aston Martin ^^^^ more attractive than the daytona coupe ... New designs aren't always worse, just because they're new
Im not saying I dont like them because they're new, I dont like them for specific aesthetic design reasons. Even the huayra has this issue up front where the lifted nose is very F1-like but at the expense of styling.
It is for its found the f70 without interest and he loves the p1, because it doesn't have been invited by ferrari. I was thinking that there's something, because it is a grand passion for ferrari. Is it not Mr Glickenhaus?
As much as I prefer the classic designs and am repulsed by much of the current arcade style esthetic I must concede that Ferrari knows its market. The company not only survives but thrives by giving the customer what it wants.
I am with the person who remarked on the cheshire cat grin of the F12,the design just doesnt flow well.Same with the FF but i think thats a great car,one of the most interesting cars to come out of Ferrari in recent times.I really think a decade down the line the would be a highly sought after oddity from Ferrari. It would be a travesty to call the 550 boring, the simple elegant but strong curves are very classical.Especially the air intake on one side fuel filler on the other. The 456 though feels a bit weak, but i absolutely love the Venice estate.THAT is a car that ahould have had a limited series. Jim,its nice to hear you are still well in touch with Ferrari, with your background in real world KERs racing, your inputs and opinions on these highly complicated systems have been very helpful.I do hope that you get your hands on an F70,918 and a P1 hand them over to your engineers/racers and give them a good workout at the ring.Would be nice to hear the feedback! I read that some mention gullwing doors? Is this accurate?and very high sill then? .
Jim, this time i totally agree with you, i don't like ff, f12 and also 458 not so much, i prefer a lot my "old" 599 gto. But i hope the f150 Will be' better than the last ferrari...( i'm pretty sure about that), but the fog light inspired at F1 is really a stupid thing...tecnologic transfer from F1? A fog light ...bleaaaa
JC's original 599 design was really great but Ferrari/Luca toned it down. (I also like KO's orginal Enzo design a lot more than the final Luca one) I still like the way the 599 turned out especially in the 599 GTO. We used an F1 rain light in Ferrari P 4/5 by pininfarina in 2006 in the same shape and place it's on F70 and as I drive it in the rain/fog/snow I think it does let others see you as you brake. The FF is an abomination. I like the 458 more than the F12 but less than the ones I mentioned.
A gift from Andrea. The original styling study for Dino Competizione. The Ferrari GT2 behind it is the 24 Hours of Spa winner. The one next to that is Jesse's 208 GTB Turbo that Enzo gave to Nino Vaccarella in 1988 just before he died.
Part of our P 4/5 C project. We wanted a car to use as a benchmark so we could judge our engineering.
I do belive the 8c to be one of the best looking cars ever made. This being said, i think Ferrari improved a lot over the last couple of generations. The 308/328 where gorgeous cars, the 348 not so, the 355 again was a very beautiful car, the 360/430 not really...i think the 458 is again a very beautifull thing. As for the v12, i believe Ferrari as been doing a good job, the 512 was beautiful...the testarossa (a bit overdesignd for my taste)..the 550/575 again very beautiful cars, and aging well, i also liked the 599 but i believe the f12 to be the best of them all...to me it´s the prettyest ferrari ever since the 275/gtb4...i also love the Daytona, despite having a "diferent" look, and i like as much the coupe as the spider.....as for 4 seat ferraris, i believe the 456 was theyr best design...the 612 was beautiful from the back and profile but the front was not my cup off tea....as for the ff i won´t speak as i never saw one in the metal (looking at the pictures i´m not very excited over it. The supercars started pretty well with the marvelous 288, to me the prettyest of them all by far. The f 40 is also a stunner...the f 50 not so much...like the back but not the front...the enzo i simply don´t like, it´s a spectacular car but not a pretty one. I like Aston´s a lot, an think the 0ne-77 is the best looking supercar out there.
