    Was the chassis painted by the factory?

    Did you mean "correct Michelotto silver" as a tongue-in-cheek joke of "bare metal" or this car was a silver coloured F40?

    I originally thought that she will stay red, though I really wouldn't complain as I like my Ferraris with colours other than red.

    No, I am referring only to the chassis which will now be stripped and then repainted in the obscure Michelotto code silver that the LM's used. It was proving an impossible task to find the correct code from anyone even the UK's main dealers and owners with LM's in their garage until extracted it from Michelotto. One benefit I suppose of having spent heavily with them is that he was happy to provide this seemingly 'secret' detail.

    Car will remain red as it raced.

    Re: "Michelotto silver" Is this the same silver found in mainstream cars? For example the tubes on my wife's F430 are a fairly bright silver.

    BTW the chassis looks matte black. Is that just age and corrosion or was it originally painted black?

    Will you redo in the original decal livery as shown or something different?

    PS. The fuel tank construction is actually very interesting. Would welcome photos of the fiberglass and carbon finish when it reaches that stage.

    No, I think it is a slightly different colour that was specifically just for the LM. Not quite sure on the chassis original colour as being Matt or gloss, but pretty sure it is just very dirty gloss.

    Still out on the decals decision and look forward to when I actually need to face it! Tempted to re sticker but will probably go for a poll here. One of the very last decisions.

    The fuel tanks are being glassed at present and hopefully carbon fibre next week and then I will be down at the shop on Tuesday to take some more photos and make decisions and the next post will be on exactly this issue. Still cannot believe I saved the tanks thanks to this forum literally by a matter of hours as I doubt we could have easily got the carbon off.

    Am curious as to why the original chassis is black rather than the Michelotto silver you have pursued?

    The 17 or 19 original LM's had chassis that were painted in the elusive silver. The 27 conversions were not and we're finished in black. As part of my evolution, seeing as how we have the opportunity I am upgrading to the elusive silver, the more so as all running gear etc is all Michelotto.

    Looks like near clean room conditions. How thick will the glass layer be?

    Just a single layer of matting. Not sure how thick that is but I am only after a barrier, leaving the alloy and carbon for strength

    should be fine. It should be complete coverage though so as to prevent any possible contact.

    Thanks for all the interest which makes me enjoy sharing the story.

    Looking for big leaps in the next three weeks but then suspect a bit of a lull whilst I sort out the engine.

    I think we are now almost at the start or in effect the end of the beginning!

    For those that are interested, the carbon will be applied as a wet lay up with a very thick coat of epoxy so we are pretty comfortable about separation from a Galvanic corrosion standpoint.
