I've been following this thread since it started early this year. I'm glad to hear that they caught him and that justice may finally be served!

I was curious though........what happens with the victims in this situation? What happens with the vehicles that were sold, but the money never made it into the hands of the old owners? What happens to them? What happens with the vehicle's NEW owners?

If was an old owner that lost my car and I never received any $$$, I wouldn't dare give up my title! And on the other hand........If I was the NEW owner that paid in full and I have the car with no title, I wouldn't dare give up the car either! What happens in this case??

The original owner owns the car period. The new owner can try to collect from the criminal but good luck the article said he sent the cash to France and Iran. It's gone.

    Haha, that's a winning photo.

I assume that IF he cooperates in getting back some of the money, because I assume all of it would never be found, his time will get reduced.

If it were me, I could care less about whether he spends 7yrs or 18yrs, as long as I got back some or most of my money.

OUCH! That would hurt! I feel really bad for the people that will be caught in that situation. Especially if someone has been saving their money, researching, and waiting for years to find the right car........Then they finally pull the trigger on their dream car with this guy and then this happens! :(

Actualy that is NOT correct..and it depends what State..so I can only speak for my State Washington..

IF the car was sold..AND the title was given to the new owner..then the old owner is CRAP out of luck..as our State Law provides that the buyer has an inherint "Right" to a perfected title and ownership..it would be up to the seller..to recover from the "Broker" or who ever he was dealing with..

This is why I ALWAYS tell everyone!!

DO NOT SURRENDER OR SIGN OFF YOUR TITLE TILL YOU HAVE BEEN FULLY FUNDED PERIOD!!

Prior to Bellagio Motors Fred had a place called European Touch in Huntington beach. They were a former F-Chat sponsor and went out of business. Anyways I bought a Porsche from them and INSISTED that they have the title in hand before I gave them any money. The car was a trade and I did not want to be left holding the bag. So I gave them a deposit on my credit card and waited until I had the title in my hand before paying and taking the car away.

While waiting for the title the car was locked indoors and not used so the dealership acted ok but it just felt iffy the whole time. I verified to death that my purchase was legit but I just could never escape that uncomfortable feeling. My wife to this day still laughs about a meeting we had with Fred where he had to count some cash for someone else and the way the bills glid through his hands was like the high speed counting machines you see at the bank.

I must say that the news in this thread does not come as a surprise and I wish that the victims be made whole somehow even though that is likely the optimist in me talking.

My buddy started this thread because of my car deal that went bad with belagio. The dectetive and DA has been in contact with me. As you know FRED did have a warrant out for his arrest on Dec. 3rd and accourding to the police FRED knew the same day the warrant was issued and he turned himself in to police that evening. Bail is revoked and he sits in jail. The police knew where Fred has been living this whole time, they had his passport or visa restricted so he could not leave the country. I guess it just takes time to build a case and finally FRED is getting what he deserves. His hearing date is JAN 15th. He has pleaded NOT GUILTY, I don't know what he is thinking but the man is going to prison! The police have all the evidence to prosecute him!
The dectective did tell me that he had many valuable things and possessions in his house that will be auctioned off to repay the victims. Most or all of the money is overseas but I think FRED will come up with money to repay his victims to serve less prison time. I'll keep updates coming when I hear.

    hello everyone,

i just found out recently that one of my cars is part of this bellagio case.

However, this is what happened.... i bought the car from a guy that had previously bought it from Bellagio. This guy paid Bellagio in full and received the title (which was titled to Bellagio already). 1.5yrs later, this guy sells me the car (he had the title and registration, etc when we did the transaction at AAA). Now, few months later, since i never received the title from DMV, i decided to contact DMV and that's how i found out that my car is part of the investigation, hence DMV is not able to issue anything for this car.

So since the previous owner received the title from Bellagio (meaning, whoever the car belonged to prior to that must have gotten paid in full if they signed over the title to Bellagio), why is this car still part of the case? Unless the original owner never got paid but somehow gave up the title to bellagio? Can the court take my vehicle away as part of the civil case to help repay the original owner(s)?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

I suspect that Bellagio likely asked the original owner to sign over the title. Once that was done, Bellagio probably transferred the title into their name to make it look like it was their car. Then they sell the car and keep all the cash, never paying the original owner or sending him a bad check.

that's odd... why would someone sign over a title if they were never paid?

So legally, does the original owner have any rights to the car, even if they were not paid? Or was all that given up when he released ownership/title to Bellagio? I just want to make sure i don't have to end up coughing up the car.

I would DEMAND that you get your money back from who you bought the car from. The deal cannot be completed so the contract you made with them is null.

It should be the previous owners problem and not yours. I would try to get away from the deal and move on.

well thing is, the previous owner was given the title by Bellagio, so legally, he was allowed to sell it... i think?

    ONE very important question...

Did they guy you bought it from TRANSFER title into his name, then SOLD it to you with the title re-affirmed in his name...OR did he "Jump" title, never transfered it...and just gave it to you signed off a year and half ago...never had it in his name???

I am the purchaser of one of these cars. I have talked to the DA and investigators. They say the car is mine and once the trial is over the Judge will grant me a new pink slip!! The seller had a contract with Fred to sell the car! A legal contract, that was done and I purchased it! It's up to the guy who had contract with Fred to get there money! The Judge is not going to say the owner never got paid so I must give it back to someone I don't know! Fred voided the contract with the seller not the buyer! The seller will have to sue Fred to get there money! When I talked to the investigater he said it will take some time but I own the car! Done its mine!
