This week's Sunday project was to a cavallino on the grille of my '83. I sized the brackets so it kind of floats out from the grille, perpendicular to the ground. I think it looks quite at home there.

Mine came with one on the grill - to be honest I didn't realise that it wasn't standard.

I feed it tiny little bits of metal hay every day, seems pretty happy !

ok, why do some attachments upload as embedded images and others as files which need to be opened ? I'm on a different pc to normal so maybe that's it.

The x.pdf is a file with 2 images of my Horse-wearing pony car - no virus or anything to worry about.

Well they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - and considering the number of fastback Mustangs sold, Ferrari should be very flattered indeed !

I think Mr Ferrari would have been kissed off, more to the point.
This was the period when Ford were gazumped by him at the 11th hour in being sold to them.

Possibly THAT'S the reason for the copy.

Not a GT- Factory C code but now running a 66 HiPo motor and a Tremec 5 speed. Factory POwer Steering, Factory A/C car with Wildwood front discs. Mustangs don't handle worth a damn but boy is good old fashioned American V8 Power a Blast!

I think the Mustang is a better looking car than the Ferrari in post #10.

Honestly everyone who comes into my garage where the 400i ad 412 are stored ALWAYS gravitate to the Mustang first. In the flesh it has a presence that's undeniable.

Didn't intend to stir the pot. Not saying the Mustang looks better than all Ferraris. Now to get back on track. The 365s had the horse in the front while the 400 didn't. I wonder why they dropped it on the later cars? Maybe they thought it was so close to the ground. It was not very visible and not worth the effort? I think it looks great and the factory should have had it on the entire series.

I didn't know the 365 GT 2+2 had the horse. I just looked through Google's images and the cavallino is present but it is not very apparent in nearly all the shots of 365's. Here are the two best examples of the many hundreds of images that a Google image search pulls up. Also, the black car in the second image is described as a 400. Is it the case that some 400's also had one from the factory, or is this photo mislabeled?

I am using the larger of the two cavallinos that the Israeli eBayer is offering. Item 221183135981. If you click the "Make an Offer" button, the seller will accept $28 ($2 off). The posts use an unusual size of nut: 3.5 mm.

OK so the 365 GT4 had the horse and the 400/412 didn't. Is that the story?
Well either way I think the horse fits well in that grille.
Now does the grille look better blacked out or with the bars highlighted?
Yes the 412 horse needs a polish to remove slow bugs.
S'pose it does not matter much - most people don't get this low to see anyway and the little furry animals don't care.

Blacked out grille: now there's an idea. Mine is so funky, the soft metal horizontals so wavy, I think I'll consider painting it black. To straighten them would require disassembly and reassembly and even if it's possible it would be a big job.
