I'm a realtively new owner (360 Spider). I was getting a CEL with codes showing CAT inefficiencies. I decided to have Fabspeed do a full upgrade (exhaust, headers, CATs, airfilters, ECU upgrade, spacers, O2 sensors, etc.)

Car runs and sounds amazing and no CELs.

Problem is I cant pass NJ emissions because it's reading CAT Monitoring -- not ready. All other systems are fine.

I've been thru drive cycles and had fabspeed look at it again and tweak the ECU parameters.

    Still same failed emissions.

Any ideas on what the issue might be or how to get my CAT Monitoring to read "ready"?

    Thanks for your input.

I would bet that the ECU tune by Evolution turned your monitor off.

That's the reason I took their tune off my car and got a refund.

I have a 430 with Fabspeed headers/cats. What worked for me was extenders plus mini-cats. I would get a refund by Fabspeed for the tune and try the mini-cats.

We actually uploaded a new file that has the monitors turned on. The fact that the monitors are still not ready has us stumped. We were hoping that a complete drive cycle would set them, but that has not happened. I don't think the car is currently being driven and we were going to try to get the monitors to set as soon as the weather started getting better.

On thing that wasn't mentioned in the original post is that this is a Euro car that came from FL (which doesn't require emissions testing). I am not sure if this car ever passed a US emissions test. When it was federalized in 2002, someone welded small cats into one tip on each side (I suppose to make up for the missing cat in the factory header). The car has our cats on it now, so it should pass without issue... we just need the monitors to wake up.

EVO has been working with us for a fix, but if we cannot get them working, we can always put the stock file back in. It would be a shame since the car is running beautifully now and he would be giving up a little performance if we did that.

It took me about 2 weeks of intermittent driving to re-set the cat. I would guess 200 miles?

I guess that is good news for my customer. Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps more driving will reset the monitors. Does anyone have the details for resetting the monitors?

Weird that you won't pass emissions with only one monitor not ready.

Usually a car from 2000 and below can have 3 monitors not ready and 2001 and newer can have 2 monitors not ready.

Have you plugged your car into an obd reader and seen the monitors and possible codes?

my monitors never came on, no matter how many drive cycles I put on and also miles, I had over a 1,500 miles and they never came on. I even put the car on a dyno so I could perfectly do the drive cycle.

It took my dealer almost a month working with FNA to get them to come on, my car is a 99 and its a known issue with the 99. I know you said its euro car but what year ? FNA has a flash for the 99 ecu to fix the issue.

You also said you would hate to put the stock file back in, how about doing that to get it to pass smog at least (I would "consider" it with the promise of fixing it right from you before the next smog test) and then put the update in after the smog test.

That's what I'm hoping. Will continue to drive more once the weather improves and hope the CAT monitors will come out of hibernation as well.

Guys at Fabspeed, by the way, are a class act and have done a great job. Will post pics of my engine so you can see the shiny steel and carbon fiber they dropped in.

Ferrari's are not the only cars with drivecycle issues but they seem to have them more than most other basic transportation because regular people would blow a gasket if their Honda failed all the time. Once I was so mad because my perfect 550 would not set the cat monitor and for the first time failed a smog test. I did all the secret drive cycle things blah blah blah...nothing worked. So here is my secret for 100% setting drive cycles in my 550. It is my WAG that Ferrari cones up with a drive cycle protocal that is supposed to work. Too many of us have tried and failed. Even dealers can't seem to get them to work. By absolute random trial when I was running a bunch of errands hoping to set drive cycles like the OP my cycles all set finally. I passed smog then disconnected the battery again cleared all with my OBD2 testor and did the listed ferrari drive cycle and monitors would not set. I clear the car again and start with a cold car in the morning. I run the exact circuit I ran when my cycles set. I complete the circuit and everything is set! Wow! this can't be. The next day I do it again run my circuit and the cycles set. The next day I run the Ferrair dirve cycle and the monitors don't set. Moral of the story? Take notes plan a route combo of starts, stops, engine off, engine cool, restart, some freeway and hope you get lucky. Oh and fuel load makes a big difference. There is something about starting with 3/4 tank and running through 1/2 that sets other monitors for evap.. Then once you got a route test it and remember it for next time because that is what your car wants to see.

NJ must be different than WA.

With no codes and only one monitor showing not ready, you would pass emissions in WA.

In NJ do you need all monitors ready?

Heading to re-inspect today. I called and you guys are correct in that as long as all other systems are up and no CEL on, you can pass in NJ with one monitor showing not ready. Will repost afterwards.

    thanks for the comments/advice.

There is always the last resort of electrical tape on the back of the dash gauge. Used this trick to fix our Lexus which threw TPMS errors since day one new.

And how does that help to pass smog?

even for the 99's ? that would really hurt if that is the case. I "thought" the 99's were still 2 monitors off.

thrilled to report back...got the green light and green sticker today! We passed!
Pinnacle in Stirling NJ specializes in german cars but Larry has done lots of work on Ferraris over the years so great for regular maintenance, etc.

Also attached a pic of my post-Fabspeed engine compartment...sounds even better than it looks! If you have a 360 you have to add the CF airfilter covers. What an aesthetic diff.
